Overall, our visit was not bad, but having eaten in fine mexican restaurants all over the western half of the country I found the food mediocre at best. The food seemed prepared and the beans tasted old. The menu actually warned that any substitutions incurred an extra fee, which is a dead giveaway that the platters are not made fresh. The salsa they serve with the chips as the free appetizer was just plain bland. It tasted like some of the ingredients were fresh and some were canned, and my personal opinion is that you need to go one way or the other. No half measures. Some of the he chips were chewy not crisp, and others were both (not very appetizing in my opinion). Cost was a bit high for the quality of the food, but drinks were basically on par with other restaurants in the area.
The service on the other hand was very good. Wait staff, cocktail servers and hosts, were all friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was pleasant and festive, and even with a full dining room, I never felt I had to raise my voice to be heard by our party.
Summing up, the cuisine was average, the salsa was bland, the chips were just plain bad, but staff and atmosphere were very good. If you prefer good food to service, this is not the place for you, but if service is more important then you will enjoy Dos Machos.
