Megan's Ward's Candlewycke Inn just outside Bigfork, Montana, never fails to please. This was our fifth visit, and as usual, our every need was taken care of--from travel advice, dining recommendations, phoning for reservations, to our special breakfast (the quiches are memorable!). Megan is on top of everything, and the uniquely decorated rooms are spotless and inviting--the hard part is deciding which room we want!. Daphne the deer comes each morning to the delight of all the guests.

This B&B in the woods of Montana is truly a gem, and its location near picturesque Bigfork, Kalispell, Whitefish, and Glacier National Park make it a great final destination or a great jump-off point for further adventures.

We keep coming back and for good reason!

A Really Nice Place

We had a lovely stay at the Candlewycke Inn... Megan and Steve are terrific people and the Inn was very clean and nicely decorated in Montana-country style. The breakfasts were a highlight of the day, as they were delicious with something different every day... Megan even went out of her way to make Eggs Benedict for our daughter (as this is her favourite breakfast). We found the Inn on tripadvisor and can confirm that the previous reviews were right on target... the grounds are wooded... the neighbourhood deer stroll by for their breakfast of cherries and grain... and the resident dog (Princess) and cat (Bandit) were ready for plenty of petting from our daughter! The town of Big Fork is a short drive away and Megan and Steve had some great recommendations for nice places to eat... We particularly liked the classics (Big Fork Inn for the double roasted duck, and Tiebuckers down the road in Somers), but found some new favourites, thanks to our hosts... for example, we had a fantastic dinner salad at the Laughing Horse Inn at Swan Lake.

Megan and Steve also lined up a nice afternoon of sailing on an old wooden sailboat (highly recommended) and also we tried the Walk-in-the-Treetops up at Whitefish, which was novel and fun (and only a tiny bit scary... thrilling?)

So there is lots to do in this beautiful valley... we left after four days wishing that we could stay longer and we plan to return once or twice a year in future. Enjoy and say "hi" to Megan and Steve for us!

  • Liked — It was clean, nicely decorated and the hosts were friendly
  • Disliked — You have to drive to get to one of the lakes

We stayed at the Candlewycke Inn over Thanksgiving and experienced great food and a very relaxing and enjoyable time. We had an opportunity to see the Nutcracker at the local theater and enjoy the shops in Bigfork. We certainly plan to visit again to see more of the city and enjoy the B&B.

My husband, our daughter and I stayed at the Candlewycke for three days in June 2007. We had the perfect set-up: a romantic room with a wonderful king-size bed for us and a room across the hall for our daughter with a bathroom in between. The breakfasts are excellent. Megan and Steve are the perfect hosts. They've designed the rooms so that there is a configuration for families, singles, or couples. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

Our favorite B & B is the Candlewycke Inn at Bigfork, Montana. It is teriffic! It is located near the beautiful Swan River, in a wooded area just outside of town, and on most days you can watch as two or three deer cautiously come to the back porch, just a few feet from your breakfast table to have their morning meal, faithfully provided by Megan Ward, the Inn's delightful owner.
Megan is a true gourmet cook, and each day's breakfast is unique and delicious. She sets high standards for herself and her staff. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortable, with top-quality beds (a must for us).
You can find privacy, if that's what you are after; but if you're smart, you will engage Megan in conversation and benefit from her wealth of information about things to do and see, restaurants to enjoy and those few to avoid, best travel routes in the region or all the way to Glacier National Park, or simply sit and enjoy her colorful tales about local happenings.
We recently returned from our third consecutive annual stay of a week at the Inn, and we hope to return for many years to come.
