“Saw on Diners, Drive In's & Dives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Visited while visiting St Louis. We had three entrees and two appetizers. I had red beans and rice , it was good but not understanding. My wife had a crab Po-boy and it was very good, my mother had catfish which was good. We enjoyed the fried tamale appetizer but the hot crab dip was just ok.

The service was good though the Happy Hour specials were a bit confusing.

“Great Variety of Choices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

A wide menu of great food choices, it is as if you have traveled between New Orleans and St. Louis, driving up U.S. 61. Creole, Catfish, BBQ, etc. fill the menu.

All the food at our table of 7 was very good. The steak sandwich comes highly recommended. My dad enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich. I didn't care for the nachos as they come with chips that have a certain seasoning on them and they were a bit overdone. There are some great choices for sides too which include mac and cheese and red beans and rice.

This is a great place to go in the Old Orchard area of Webster Groves.

“Not Authentic Cajun”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for a couple beers and appetizers. They definitely have the roadhouse look down. We tried 4 appetizers: fried okra, barbecue shrimp, cajun arancini, and etouffee (which the server was nice enough to provide as a cup portion - not on menu). My wife liked the fried okra, I am not a fan. The cajun arancini, advertised as "creole rice with andouille sausage & asiago cheese formed into balls" had no trace of andouille. The most egregious items were the BBQ shrimp and etouffee, both of which I have had in New Orleans. The shrimp, which were properly cleaned and perfectly cooked, were served in a dilute tomato soup. The etouffee was tomato-based, which is not authentic, and tasted very medicinal.

Beyond the food, and this is an enormous pet peeve of mine, was the fact that there were not many customers and employees congregated at the bar 8 feet from where we were sitting and chatted, and griped about final exams, and carried on with one another unprofessionally. One even played Barry Manilow (in a roadhouse?) on the juke box and turned up the volume. No presence of competent management.

“Spicey Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Hidden away in Webster Groves by Webster University, but seems like everyone knows about it. If you like Cajun food, you'll love this place, if you don't they have other great food. Great atmosphere, live music and good people. Prices are right. Enjoy

“Fun and Festive, good food too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We dined on a Saturday night with 2 couples; one of the ladies saw the DDD show. One of our group was celebrating Passover, so we skipped some of the bread and pasta heavy options but there was still plenty of choices for her too. Food was good (not great) and certainly not the best Barbq in St. Louis. They had run out of smoked chicken by 7pm on a Saturday night (seems like poor kitchen planning). The remainder of the smoked meats were good with good balance of sweet, spice and smoke. The green beans were nothing special and the waffle sweet potato fries were tasty but cold when served but other sides were all good. The star of the meal was actually the southern pecan salad with a balanced dressing. It came with generous portion of barbq shrimp on the side. The flavor on the shrimp was good but they were on the small side. We skipped dessert and walked around the corner to Serendipity for some of the best ice cream in St. Louis.
