We had a family gathering this past weekend at the Old Dutch Hotel, and had a wonderful time! The rooms were wonderful and the staff was very helpful. The tavern was a relaxing place and we will definitely be going back!

We've been traveling around the country in our RV and this was the first time in over a year we chose to stay at a hotel for the weekend. I'm glad it was the Old Dutch Hotel & Tavern. The room was small but super clean, large bathroom, highspeed wifi and comfy bed. We were directly above the tavern however it was surprisingly quite. The breakfast was continental in a basement room, but they had a lot of breakfast goodies to choose from. The Tavern was well above average. We sat at the bar the two times we ate there. The place was packed but the bartenders/servers were attentive and took their time to chat with us when they could. We had an amazing meal. I had the clam & linguini and my husband had the pork chops the first night and we had the flat bread pizza and stuffed mushrooms the second night. I wish I was one of those people that take a picture of there food because not only did it taste amazing but it was top chef quality and definitely photo worthy. I would recommend staying here if you ever drive through the quaint town of Washington.

A couple of years ago, this property underwent a MAJOR rehab. It went from dilapidated hodgepodge of a pseudo coffee shop and nick knacks, to its current Cinderellac transformation.

The Old Dutch recommissioned 14 unused rooms and now has 14 new bedrooms with 24 hr staff for over night love birds or those arriving for a stay on Amtrak.

But the real jewel is what the new owners did with the tavern. Two words: eye candy.

From the ceiling, adorned with ceiling tiles from the Art Deco period and a mesmerizing Rube Goldberg ceiling fan, to rich, wide plank, wooden floors, the Old Dutch definitely gets 10 style points.

The menu has an eclectic mix of 7 entrees from Pot Pies and Chicken Nora to Fettuccine and Snapper, they have something for almost every palate, with price points around $17. Did I mention the kids menu?

They also have a huge micro beer list and even show case some higher end spirits from local distilleries. (I love it when local companies use products from local makers.)

The only reason I didn't give the Dutch 5 Stars is because, and strangely enough, acoustics. The noise levels, particularly towards the back of the tavern, reach levels that make an average conversation, near impossible. And as the drinks flow, people, unconsciously, compete for ever increasing higher volumes of speech until one gets the impression everyone is yelling at each.

C'est la vie

The restaurant has a great selection of fresh food and a good selection of craft beers. The hotel and restaurant combine to make a good destination with charm and style. Walk town, have some wine and step accross the street for suchi.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights Sept 29 till Oct 4 ,2013. Booking the room was very fast and simple and the lady who took our reservation was very friendly. Upon arrival we walked in and just couldn't get over how cute the place was. We were given our keys to our room on the third floor and we stayed in room 308 over looking the main street. The room was very clean and well kept and I really never minded it being small I enjoyed all the windows in the room. The Hotel sits in a Historic district with many shopping and dinning option and you can pretty much walk to everything in the downtown area. The overall area is very friendly and you have a very good feeling of safety while walking or running around the area. A few parks are close and the river front walking trail was very nice. The Breakfast was very simple more of a get you to work our out the door thing ..But the Tavern for lunch or Dinner was the shinning star of the Hotel..Parking at the Hotel is along the street so it seemed to only be a problem if the Tavern was crowded but we always managed to get a spot .If you need a fitness room they have a pass to the local YMCA for Guest. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone traveling in the area.

The Old Dutch Hotel was a nice change of pace from hotel/motel chains. Our room was a single queen size room with a bathroom. The room wasn't large but we were just spending the night so it was quite adequate. The room was extremely clean as was the bathroom. Our shower rod fell down twice during the night - it was just one of those expansion rods that needed tightening. We didn't partake of the offered continental breakfast so I can't comment on it. All parking is on the street so this could be a problem if you are coming in late and the attached tavern is busy; you may have to walk a bit.

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights on Sept 6 & 7, 2013. Booking by telephone was easy and the clerk (Taylor) was very helpful. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Washington, Mo with restaurants, pubs and quaint shops all close and the Amtrak station is only a couple of blocks away. This retro hotel has been very nicely done. Our double room was clean and attractive with 2 queen beds and a really nice large shower stall (no tub). All amenities that anyone would expect were provided including a nice complimentary breakfast selection in the Hospitality Room each morning (nothing fancy). Because the hotel is located in the downtown area, don't expect any attractive scenery. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone traveling in the area.

Room Tip: Both 2nd & 3rd floor rooms are quiet. Any noise from the Old Dutch Tavern on the ground floor c...
