“delicious dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We had a very good dinner at the Gap last night, I have been going there for about 45 years and can honestly say the food has never been better, and the establishment deserves to be labeled a gastro pub. We had duck, blade of beef and an excellent bottle of malbec, the restaurant in the old skittle alley was warm and the service efficient and knowledgeable. Well done!!

“Always friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

This is a pub you can call into for a drink or a meal and always be sure of a welcome. We live quite locally and went on the spur of the moment this week for a meal . The landlord was delighted to fit us in, even though it was a bit late(for Dorset you're lucky to find anything serving much past 8.30!!) There was a good crowd in for a Tuesday night including enthusiastic skittles players We shared a starter of dips and I had delicious mackerel main course although the salsa was rather overpowering. Didn't have a pud this time, but they're always good. In the summer there is a garden with a fantastic view. Dogs are welcome too.

“Warm & welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

We went for Sunday lunch with friends. We fortunately had booked a table as it was packed. It was carvery, I had pork, hubby had beef and friends had beef and turkey. Plenty of lovely vegetables and sauces. Hot plates so by the time you got to your table the food was still nice and hot and delicious. We all had pud which was very nice, followed by coffee. The staff were very friendly, the whole place was welcoming and warm. The furniture and fittings are lovely, there is a log burner with sofas to lounge around in. I would recommend this pub, in the summer its lovely to sit in the garden and admire the most fantastic views.

“Good carvery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

We were lucky to get a table for 4 without booking for a Sunday carvery. It was excellent. Friendly staff. Large plates and nicely cooked food.We had don a 3 mile walk from a book of Dorset walks before lunch. It was very wet and we had the wrong footwear. We walked from the pub car park. The walk would be good in the Summer and in the winter in wellies.

“Wonderful baby, child and dog friendly pub with excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We visited this great pub for lunch on two occasions in the last week and both times it was really impressive. It is a very friendly and welcoming pub, very cosy (log fire) and with great beers and food. They have a kids menu too and do great traditional pub fare with a nice twist (ploughman's came with three different dips/chutneys and included the wonderful Godminster cheddar). You can also eat with a little more adventure - sea bass, beetroot three different ways and a pheasant/partridge pate were also on the menu when we visited. The pub also enjoys amazing views and is well situated for walks.
