Second visit in 2 months with the family. Whilst it was good and the majority of the food was good there were some frayed edges. The lovely food included the scampi and the lasagne and the prawns. The special burger was also fine. On the disappointing side - the special vegetarian mushroom, lentil and walnut loaf and vegetables simply lacked something. The potatoes were lovely. The loaf was pleasant but the vegetables had a limp and either overcooked or microwaved look about them. Knowing the place and its high standards I am sure it was the former and not the latter. They did detract from an otherwise nice meal. The deserts were overall very nice too.
We were seated by the corner of the bar and this was cold - it was a freezing day and the door was opening and closing frequently. With the specials board behind us we had a steady stream of people standing seemingly staring at us, but looking to see what was on the board. Despite their apologies to us - I would suggest that this table is probably the worst in the place especially on a cold day.
Overall this made for an OK experience it did detract from the warmth (Both physically and atmospherically) of the visit and made us rather happy to leave and get back to the warm fire at home. That is a shame as it was a special occasion and the Bird in Hand has lovely staff and some very good food.
