Junie Moon recently moved to their new location, just a building down from the old restaurant. The new facility is very spacious, and nicely decorated, but the chairs at the tables were crafted for very small size butts. If you are anything larger than small-to-average size, ask to be seated at a booth.
Dinner was nothing spectacular. I ordered the fried chicken and my husband had the pork chops. The fried chicken appeared to be pre-made, and just popped into the fryer…nothing homemade about it, at least not taste-wise. The red skin mashed potatoes were good, but could have used some gravy. The worst part of the meal was the overcooked and soggy green beans. Come on, it’s SUMMER for goodness sakes. You couldn’t do better than that? Also, because the beans were so watery, the juice from them ran all over the dinner plate, destroying the bread slices. Sorry, but wet bread just doesn’t add to a meal!
The waitress was fine…good service, kept our ice tea filled up, and checked on us quite frequently. The entire restaurant is non-smoking…a tough sell in Franklin County…so I applaud them for that. There were plenty of servers working, so it looked like customers were well taken care of.
I live in Union and like to support the local restaurants, but I am not sure that Junie Moon is worthy of very many return dinner trips. After the Fourth of July they are going to start serving breakfast on the weekends, so I will give that a whirl before writing this place off.
