“Fantastic little place--worth every penny. Every mouthful was fantastic.”
We made reservations and decided to sit outside on their BEAUTIFUL patio. The hydrangeas were so gorgeous they looked fake! Our waiter, John was very attentive and arrived immediately to tell us about the fish board specials and also to take our drink order. They have wine specials on the patio all day. We told him we like whites, so he told us to try the vinho verde--he brought us both a sample. We liked it and ordered a bottle--it was very fairly priced. Next he brought us an amuse bouche which was a nice piece of seared steak with caramelized onion and balsamic reduction...the flavors were robust and it certainly whetted the appetite. For an appetizer, he recommended the house smoked salmon. The presentation was inventive and the flavor was DELICIOUS and craveable. For entrees, we decided to try the red snapper en papillote and the branzino bistro style (at this restaurant you can take any of their fresh fish and try them 3 different ways. John had great recommendations about which fish went best with each preparation). The red snapper was so moist and tender. The accompanying rice was very flavorful, and I'm not a huge rice person unless it is seasoned well. I would order it again. The branzino bistro style was killer! I would go back tonight again to have this same dish. The branzino was pan seared, extremely well seasoned and flavorful, and the accompanying potatoes and hericot verts were bursting with flavor. I usually "skip" the potatoes, but these were so good that we ate them all. Because the meal was so good, we decided to order dessert. It was a macadamia nut bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream and a raspberry coulis. This was one of those desserts that every bite is worth the calories--just had to plan on getting a few extra miles in the next day. I plan on recommending this place to everyone I know. The prices were extremely fair for what you got. We ate at the Tavern (which won restaurant of the year last year) and I think Bistro 1130 was hands down the better place to eat and winner of my repeat business.
