“Birds Nest Lodge wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.”

Negatives: Nature enthusiasts, and family oriented folks seeking a comfortable lodging facility that offers clean campgrounds with enforced quiet time rules need not reserve a cabin OR campground at the Bird's Nest. The campgrounds were crowded and littered with beer cans from the scores of twenty somethings who partied past dawn. The "receptionist" at the main lodge (where you check in and eat breakfast/dinner) needed a refresher on proper manners when dealing with paying customers and there just seemed to be a complete lack of organization and enthusiasm about the whole business itself. On the second evening there, our family purchased wood to build a campfire only to discover that it was wet. Positives: As there are very few, this will be quick. The cabin that we stayed in was not that bad. The beds were firm (and clean) and the room was basically clean, although the cheap air freshener was smellier than if they didn't use one at all. The river was beautiful and offered a great float. Little bluffs spot the river, as well as a big beautiful cave with a fresh, freezing spring. Lots of places to pull over and swim as well. The breakfast and dinner provided was great, and the resident kitty and dog Teddy were charming. If you are young and carefree, looking to drink a lot, sleep very little and float to your hearts content, this is for you. If you are a parent, young person who likes to have a few but get some shut eye too, or if you are very young, or very old, this place is not for you.

The place was disgusting. While using the bathroom a couple of girls had bugs crawl on them, the shower head was falling out of the wall, and the floor was sinking in. Also bring shoes that you can wear in the shower because you will feel dirty getting out of the shower than you did before getting in it. The beds were rock hard, the room smelled like wet dogs, the AC was clogged with dust. We stayed in A-2 and it should be condemned by the health department. The website says new renovated and their definition of renovated must be way different than mine.

As far as the river experience goes they were disorganized loading the buses and could not figure out how to put people on them to get them floating. Most of the rafts were missing safety covers to protect air inlets and one of the middle chambers would not blow up

We stayed at the Bob White, it was disgusting! black mold on the walls. Ceiling fan covered with filth, mini-blinds needed to be burned. Bath tub knob broke off, and the ceiling held up with duct tape. Torn furniture, smelly trash left for us in the kitchen. And when the place was cleaned they mopped the floors from the kitchen sink, leaving us the dirty water in the sink. There was a 10 people minumum in that house with one bathroom and not enough seats for all of us to sit and eat a meal. The BBQ grill that they provided was also covered in mold. We also had issues with the local people pulling up and hanging around our camp with our young children around, one creppy guy wanted to take our kids on his john boat up the river fishing. Very scarry!!!! We felt very unsafe letting our kids outside. They charged us $400 dollars per night. We way over paid!!!! What a dump! If your looking for a nice place to stay, this isn't it!!!! They should have paid us to stay there, I wouldn't have done it for $400 per night, that's for sure,YUCK!
GO HAVE A NICE VACATION SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
oh, and the staff was pretty rude and they are not very good with figuring out money mistakes, they over charged us and it took us 20minutes just to explain to the lady what they did wrong.

We got in after the office was closed, and after dark, to our cabin which when we opened the door, we wanted to run far away. It was like something out of a horror movie. Filthy beyond filthy. Pee stained mattresses with no sheets, carpet I would not put an animal on. Holes in walls covered with tape. Book in the bedside drawer is nasty and should be removed and thrown in the trash. (comments from other people) sexually explicit. Since it was so late, we used our car blanket and slept on it for a few hours. Next morning we complained and the staff was fabulous. We got an upgrade to a WONDERFUL cabin that was new and clean and beyond my expectations. Then we had a wonderful time. The float didn't seem long enough although we did the 8 mile. The fishing was pretty good, and the relaxation was wonderful. BRING SHEETS AND PILLOWS, and Spider spray and just spray each room when you arrive. The staff was wonderful, and this place is under renovation. I think it will be fabulous when Jason gets it done. We will definitely go back but not stay in the small cabins near the store. So my ratings below are based on our second cabin, not the first.

We went with a large group of adults and kids and due to time and booking constraints had to settle for the "White House", we booked off the website and used the pictures to gauge. What a Mistake!!

The "White House" should be condemned. It's not even close to the "resort" and should not be rented out to anyone. Especially for $35/pp / per night. What a ripoff!!

I cannot put into words how many different things were subpar, that you wouldn't believe me. (smell, dirt, mud, lack of lighting or light bulbs, toilets, bed = mattresses, no bed frames, no privacy inside, hot tub was gross. We are not picky or high maintenance, but we got completely screwed.

I am more than happy to answer any e-mails, do not stay here - even for free.

We booked this cabin over the internet. Upon arrival, receptionist advised she had forgot to tell use 'we needed bedding'- which she provided so we could make up our bed. You needed much more than bedding - cabin was small, the beds were terrible, the floors were filthy and the bathroom was primitive. We booked another hotel in Cuba for a lesser fee than the Birds Nest and didn't even stay at Birds Nest - making it a very expensive stay.

The Bird's Nest Lodge is one of the most beautiful and comfortable resorts that we have visited. It not only offers a fun for all retreat (float downs, nature walks, swimming in the river and fishing), but also has caring and supportive staff to make one's vacation unforgettable.

We especially enjoyed the view and the hottub from the Roost. The view and the location is so special that once you discover this treasure, that you will want to return to this resort over and over.

Finally, we have traveled the world and have visited hotels, cabins and nature parks throughout our travels. However, Bird's Nest Lodge really has the edge in all that we mentioned above, but also the hospitality and the best location on the Meramac.

Keep up the great work and we will be back when the leaves turn this Fall.

Sincerely,

Dolores Ashland Doherty
