“Good, overpriced steak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Flame is a good place to get dressed up and go out to eat. The lighting is very dim, and there is a server who is specifically assigned to filling up water glasses. The steaks are good, but the food is fairly expensive. I asked for "regular" ketchup to go with a hamburger, and the waitress initially refused to bring it to me. She said I needed to try the "Western, smokey" ketchup before I would be brought the regular kind. I tried it and hated it. The situation was pretty weird.

I took my girlfriend to the Flame Steakhouse for her birthday, excellent food, and superb waiting staff. I would definitely recommend this restaraunt to any steak lover.

“Overpriced and overrated...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Everyone raves about Flame. Based on my sole experience there, I won't be returning. Nice environment, but the food was average at best. In fact, I really did not enjoy my steak at all. Considering the price is on the higher end, it is not worth it. It's attempting to be upscale, and I believe the only reason it survives is because of the lack of higher end dining experiences in the Springfield area. Service was good, and there were some decent elements of the meal, but you won't find me at Flame anytime soon.

A memorable night with friends! We enjoyed the wine and perfectly prepared meal. I only wish I could remember our servers name. The service was excellent.

“Epic Failure”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

My wife took me to dinner at Flame for my birthday since I’m a steak snob and enjoy wine. Based on the previous reviews, we went expecting a great cut of meat with excellent service. Future diners beware; we got neither. First things first, understand that the most convenient parking option if there is no streetside parking is the valet parking. Valet parking will run you $3.00 plus tip.

We arrived and were greeted by a kind hostess and taken to our table on the left side of the lower floor of the restaurant. By being in their boxed in section of the restaurant, the conversation at other tables is so loud that it makes it hard to hear the person next to you at times. Also, the restaurant is maintained so dim that the table across form us had to use a keychain flashlight to read the menu.

Our waiter initially approached our table and said “what would you like to drink?” He did not say “Hi, my name is Tim, welcome to flame where we feature XXXXXX, the specials are XXXXXXX, while you’re getting settled in, can I offer something to drink from our wine menu?”. This would be the first miss-step of our seemingly completely inept waiter, Tim. I ordered a Diet Pepsi and my wife ordered a glass of wine. My wife’s wine was fine and I was brought a regular Pepsi. We ordered the delicious Gorgonzola fondue appetizer and I was, once again, brought a regular Pepsi, instead of a diet Pepsi, after sending the first one back.

Our entrees were the biggest letdown of the night. I ordered the Kansas City Strip Steak and my wife ordered the Petit Filet Mignon. I ordered my steak Medium Rare and it came our barely rare. My wife ordered her steak medium and it came our medium-well and extremely dry. My steak was so rare that it ultimately left me spending the majority of the evening sick in the bathroom. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! (Especially for a steakhouse). You may be asking yourself, “why didn’t you send it back”? The table behind me did this to their steak, but it’s so dark in the restaurant that you need to examine the steak with a light to see it. By the time I was halfway through the steak it occurred to me that it was too underdone. The service from Tim continued to be lackluster and awkward. We were given an offering of bread after we were halfway through our main entrees and other tables were given this bread before they ordered.
Dessert was the small glimmer of hope for the evening; we got the Bananas Foster and it was good. It would have been nice if they included more of Andy’s Vanilla Custard with it, but it was good. The bill came to about $115 for two plus tip. We will surely not return and would recommend you look for a different place to dine if in the Springfield area.
