When American Airlines cancelled my flight and I had to stay in St Louis, I stayed at this hotel because my sister was staying there. The hotel outside wasn't much to look at, but the lobby was impressive. The room I stayed in had recently been redone. Most everything was brand new. Reclining chair in room was nice, but room is really a bit too small for it. Overall, a very good stay. However, they warned us when we checked in that they were doing renovations from 8-5. I found out they weren't kidding the next morning at 8:00 when it sounded like they were pounding and drilling in my bathroom!! Can't comment on breakfast--didn't eat. They do have 3 free drinks and some chip type snacks in evening, popcorn & softdrinks in lobby in pm, and offer 1 hour of free long distance calls. I imagine they don't have much use of that, because of cell phones.

Was initially a bit skeptical about staying here because of the distance to the airport. However, my sister talked me into using MetroLink (light rail) to go to the airport. Initially said "no way." Finally did use it and it was really great. Distance to airport is 18 miles and took me 18 minutes (much faster than taxi.) Taking luggage is no problem, as there are no steps to deal with. Definitely recommend MetroLink!

The Drury Inn has a historical feel that makes its lobby feel like a cross between a museum and an old movie theater (in a good way). The strong smell of popcorn adds to the effect. The staff seem a little jaded, and tend to "handle" you more than talk to you, but there is a fairly friendly air to the place. The big problem was the noise in the room. I have stayed in a fair number of cheaper hotels, and I have never had such a loud refrigerator. It switches on and off with a loud click every half an hour all day and night. When it's on, it really hums. In addition, the heater does the same thing as the fridge--every half an hour it clicks on and rattles loudly. I'm not a light sleeper, but between the fridge and the heater, I had to finally get earplugs. It annoyed me that the heater and fridge in $50 motels are quiet as can be, while this more expensive hotel had such loud annoying ones. Surely, the fridge was not part of the vintage charm.

We were in St. Louis to visit the Fox Theater and this hotel met our needs just perfectly. The rooms were not large, but perfect for a short stay. The location is great and within a shortdrive of downtown,
he Fox theater, and many interstates that lead to several other popular St. Louis Destinations. The breakfast was typical of Drury Inn properties with hot biscuits, gravy, waffles, fruit, etc. Nothing
gourmet, but great to get you through until lunchtime. Overall I was very pleased with the location. The room was very clean and quiet leading to a great night's sleep. The elevators can be a bit slow but nothing worth complaining about.

I booked this based on the reasonable rate and recommendations here on tripadvisor. I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of "historic" hotels so my review may reflect that.

Pros: Very easy to find, free parking, decent neighborhood, GREAT continental breakfast selection, (extremely) close to Union Station, very pretty common areas with uniqueness of being in the old YMCA building

Cons: Far away from downtown, bad neighborhoods within 5 minute drive, older (historic) hotel with its share of nicks/smells/holes/etc, uninterested service staff, very basic rooms

There were many many people at the hotel commenting on how great the hotel was, so perhaps I've become spoiled. It certainly wasn't bad, but the horrid smoke smell (in my non-smoking room), the elevator that took 15 minutes to even come to pick you up, and the way-too-crowded breakfast room just left me wondering...is this the best that St. Louis has to offer?!?
