“Great neighborhood eatery!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

This is a great neighborhood restaurant -- excellent for breakfast or lunch Monday - Saturday. Menu isn't huge, but sandwiches are good and service great. Nice little patio too for warmer days. The owners are often working behind the counter. Full bar offered as well for great cocktails.

They REALLY need to open for brunch on Sundays. They'd have a great crowd, just as their neighbor Benton Park Cafe down the street does.

Free coffee, tea or soda if you pay in cash.

“Wonderful menu and taste and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

This is a small restaurant with limited tables along with some bar seating but quite nice. The menu has too many good sandwich choices - meaning I have to come back again to try more. On this day, I had a marvelous egg salad on Texas toast and my wife a BLT. We both loved the sandwiches along with "homemade potato chips." The server was very busy yet she still managed to get what we needed when we needed it. "What do you need, kiddos?" she asked often. My wife loved the spice cake dessert as well. This was a fine, informal and reasonably priced experience (pay cash and the drinks - non-alcoholic - are free). We will be back, and soon. I highly recommend it - check out their menu online to see the wide variety of choices.

“Ten dollars for biscuits and gravy and a coffee?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

That's right, the tab was $9.21 for biscuits and gravy and a coffee with cream. $11.00 including a too generous tip. The "cream" was Coffee Mate at first, then as I pressed, they got me some processed half and half. This is a $1.50 coffee and resembled mud. I don't mind paying for quality, but 1) the quality was poor. The gravy had that cheapo shiny and jiggly quality of dive greasy spoon diners. In contrast, $7.50 got me biscuits and gravy and a coffee with real half and half at a little joint in the East Village of NYC. And this is St. Louis where rent is less than a 1/4 what costs in NYC. Service sucked, too. Go to Soulard Coffee Garden for some REAL food made with good ingredients, the best biscuits and gravy for less money, excellent wait staff and atmosphere.

“Great place, great people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2010

This is one of my favorite places to go for lunch. The food is almost always wonderful, and the service is the best around. Go when the weather's warm and the patio is open. Bring your kids and the dog (the owners love them). And whatever you do, get a slice of the spice cake.

“You'll wonder how they know you”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2010

This is a great local place where you'll always feel right at home. Cass and Jackie do their best to know all their customers and by your second visit, they'll know you're name. The food is typical deli fare with a little flair for lunch and great breakfast food. You have to try Elsie's spice cake for dessert. The outdoor patio is great in good weather and right across from the park. Never a bad visit.
