“Breathtaking Lobby”

After looking at reviews for my upcoming vacation, I realized that I've been remiss about writing my own reviews. I saw many unfavorable reviews of this hotel but our experience was anything but that.

The building itself is beautiful and the lobby begs for you to sit, have a cocktail and enjoy the beauty and history of the place. The station museum allows you to fantasize about the glory days of Saint Louis.

The hotel was walking distance (albeit long) to the arch. The art pieces within the park and the old court house made for great stops along the way. We even stopped to have a peek at a Cardininal's game on our way back to the hotel.

I did not feel comfortable walking at night as we were asked for money 3 times within a half of a block. There is a fun Irish bar/restaurant within two blocks of the hotel. They were very accommodating to our son.

The outdoor pool is lovely as was a much deserved nap in the cabana.

Our air conditioner broke on the first night and management happily moved us to a new room the next morning.

Breakfast was lovely. The waitress remembered most of the guests and brought our drinks every morning without prompting. She made for a very pleasant start to the day.

I recommend a visit to the Basilica. It is by far one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

Lobby is impressive but that's where it ends. I had a spacious corner room which was nice but furnishings, wallpaper, carpet all need replacing. Large walk-in closet had no light in it. Ventilation system worked well but pumped out a musty smell. Bed was comfortable. High speed internet was very fast and reliable. Elevators are painfully slow and make odd noises. Check in was fast and easy, newspapers available early in the morning, computers available to print out boarding passes were nice. An empty glass sat was outside my room when I arrived and was still there when I left 2 days later.

The rooms seem to need some freshning up. The beds were comfortable and the staff very helpful.The lobby is beautiful with so much history to it. Parking for free is at a minimum, so you will end up paying up to $19 a day to park. Also there is no free wi-fi, another charge of $12.95 a day.

My son and I were driving to Colorado and stopped at the Marriott Union Station overnight. Hotel is the old St. Louis Train station. Rooms are nicely done, clean and there is lots to do in the train station converted into a shopping/dining mecca. If you are going to St. Louis it is well worth seeing this historic old train station converted into a nice hotel.

My friends and I were looking for a hotel for a girls' outing and this beautiful, historic hotel was perfect for us. We enjoyed the beautiful grand lobby and enjoyed the "whisper arch" at the entrance, impressive guilded room, and turn-of-the-century elegance.

Our room was very nice although the hallways could use some updating and our view was of the courtyard in winter (no Arch, for example). We felt the value of our direct booking was good since it included the courtesy valet, and parking is otherwise pricey. The only drawback was that we expected to enjoy shopping at the attached Union Station and found it to be almost desolate! The actual hotel was very nice, though, and we just took our adventurous spirits out into the city.

Luckily, there is still an Einstein Bagels in the Union Station and I began my day with a good book and hot drink on the balcony of the hotel watching one or travelers at a time walking through the enormous, echoing former train terminal. Loved the almost spooky ambience.

We went for the train station and it was a brilliant idea. There was no other way to get such good access to so many parts of the building. In what was once the Harvey House dining area, when the waitresses figured out we were really keen on the station and not there for any other reason, we were invited and encouraged into some of the different rooms of the the old Union Station. They started to offer information. The valets were very very helpful and kind as well. Now the rooms were a bit dated and were just OK. Go for the station and enjoy.

Big disappointment from the beginning. It was a good 15 minute walk from the train station. Not bad if only light luggage and a nice day, but the cab drivers didn't want to take us because the cab ride would be just a short one. Our cab driver made that very clear. Then our room was disappointing. We were only given enough coffee for one person (there was 2 of us). We didn't have a dry cleaning bag and no spare blanket. The front desk clerks were cold and not helpful at all. Our room was in need of repair and needed a deep cleaning. I have attached photos. Wallpaper was in bad condition. Toliet paper dispenser was dirty. Bathroom ceiling was patched, but not sanded and repainted. Window seat looked like it was covered in contact paper that had holes and rips in it. The bathroom floor in front of stool was dirty. We reserved the room at one price ($218.75) with breakfast), then a sale came up so we called and got the lower price ($189.00). I can't say for sure but have to ask myself if we were given a shabby room because we asked for the sale price. I wouldn't think so, but I also would not think that a 4 star, $218.75 room with breakfast would be in such disrepair.
