This is our second stay in Indigo suites. It is a renovated older building, and is a quaint place to stay within walking distance to the nightlife of the central west end and the leisures of beautiful forest park. Compared to places close by, that are comfortable, nice, and safe, the Indigo Hotel is a very good value. The beds are comfortable, the decor is nice, there is flat screen TV, and ipod connection (not that you'd want to spend a lot of time watching TV in this location!). The bathroom in our first room was small but nice, the second was a wheelchair access room, so as far as "nice", it didn't have marble counters or a particularly nice shower, but of course was large and adequate. The staff were nice and accommodating. The downstairs lobby has a cute little bar, starbucks coffee, and good snack options. Finally, I like the fact that it is fairly small, so parking and getting to your room, etc, is quick and easy. Furthermore, the parking lot is monitored with multiple cameras, and there is covered parking as well.
Now for the downsides.
The air conditioner would not cool the room below 73 degrees (too warm for me), and was very loud. The elevator is very slow and small; this did not bother us since there are only 3 levels and the stairs are fine. There was no way to tell housekeeping to not disturb us in the morning (ok, maybe I'm being a little petty!). Finally, the rooms are a little small, but quick frankly, this really didn't bother us....that's partly why it's so much cheaper than the "nicer" place close by that we've stayed in. finally, maybe this was bad luck, but there was pieces of trash behind the chair in the room. Maybe a one-time over-site from housekeeping.
Overall, I will stay there again to save $50+ from the slightly nicer place close by (which requires parking quite a distance from the front desk...several blocks, in fact). The beds are just as comfortable, and the location only 2 blocks from so much!
Try Scape for dinner or breakfast, drunken fish for sushi (awesome), bar italia for dinner or drinks on a great patio, or bar louie for drinks and very good but unique bar food (a little younger crowd as it gets late, and smoking is allowed...blah!). Plenty other places to choose from within two blocks too.
