Nice museum also free which is better. Parking can be difficult. Very extensive and beautiful exhibits. Make time to look at least hour or two.

“Good Free Museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

The Saint Louis Art Museum's biggest asset is the price: free!

We visited recently, which unfortunately with the renovation and expansion caused lots of exhibits to either be closed, empty, or missing lots of the pieces. The museum is large, and will be huge when the expansion opens. I can see this as one of the top art institutions in the country when the expansion is completed!

We are not art lovers, but still found the museum enjoyable, especially to get out from the heat wave hitting STL right now. Lots of interesting art to enjoy. They have a nice gift shop, and some of the special exhibits were well done, others kind-a boring.

One item that is lacking would be more kid-friendly activities and exhibits. This museum has a more serious aura about it, which isn't always the most enjoyable for kids. Nothing hands-on and no kid oriented exhibits.

For tourists, the location is perfect: right in the middle of Forest Park. There are great views to the Grand Basin and its right next to the Saint Louis Zoo (also free). If you combine the Art Museum with other Forest Park attractions, you could have a full and interesting day.

“The price is right and the art is delightful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

The St. Louis Art Museum sits in Forest Park and charges neither an admission nor a parking fee, although on busy days a 10 minute walk may be necessary to reach the museum from the nearest parking. Nearly all of the European and American masters have at least 1-2 works on display, although the museum lacks a signature piece. Although this is not one of the best art museums in the US, anyone who enjoys art will certainly enjoy this museum. I've always loved the size of the museum because the whole collection can be viewed in about a half-day.

“Terrific Art Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

The museum offers a wide variety of art and sits atop a hill with a fantastic view of the Forest Park area (former World's Fair setting). We liked strolling through the exhibits which are very diverse from classics to ultra modern.

“Under renovation but still well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2011

The Art Museum is undergoing a major expansion, and as a result it feels quite maze-like with closed corridors and temporary spaces. But to its credit, there is still a lot of first rate art on display, with reasonable strengths in European and American art, but also world-class holdings in the basement for ethnographic material from Oceania, Mayan antiquities and furniture.

When the full building opens, this will be a cultural destination in its own right. For the moment, well worth visiting if you are in St Louis.
