This restored movie theater now a symphony hall for several decades feels at once intimate and extravagantly spacious. With red velvet to the point of seeming like an irrelevant throwback, it's just the ticket for launching you out of your ordinary preoccupations and preparing you for another dimension of reality. Grandeur, elegance, and graciousness abound.
The Powell is near much of St Louis' other entertainment venue and provides an event laden show season. The seats are some of the best since they don't limit the loge boxes to corporations. Try the Christmas Special with your kids.

Beautiful building, great acoustics, and plenty of parking - a major plus in this neighborhood. There is a good police presence during events although I wouldn't want to walk alone at night except before and after events. Very close to St. Louis University.
An old movie house, Powell is home to the world-renowned St. Louis Symphony. Fresh off a European tour, the orchestra sounds fantastic in their home, Powell Hall. Great romantic date, great family choice, great for college-aged.
