“paddle boats and picnic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We live in St. Louis, just minutes from this park, and it is one of our favorite ways to spend time outdoors with the five kids. On a day that is warm, but not hot, rent a paddle boat at the Boat House. We bring a lunch or snacks on board, and let the kids do the paddling. You get the boat for an hour ($17 with tax) and you have time to paddle to the center of the park--the grand basin. You will have a beautiful view of the Art Museum, and there are several fountains to steer toward and give the kids a wet thrill :) We like to float a bit, and eat lunch in the center of the basin, and then head back. You go under 2-3 bridges, depending on your route. Many times, after we return the boat, we follow the gravel bike trail back to the Grand Basin, and sit by the water and just read the afternoon away, fly a kite, or run up the huge Art Museum hill for the fun of rolling down!! The whole day is just simple outdoor fun that you'll love!
*There are bathrooms and water fountains near the boat rental, and inside the free Art Museum.

“It rivals Central Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Forest Park designed by Fredrick Olmstead who designed Central Park in New York City did a great job. The park has lots to see and do. It is fun for walking and bike riding. It was cold on New Year's Day, but there were still lots of people out walking. The Grand Basin below the Art Museum was spectular with a little ice and lots of duck. The fountains were beautifu as the sun started to set.

“One of America's great Parks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

It's rare to have such a great public facility available at no cost to visitors. Forest Park includes a world famous zoo, a fine art museum a history museum, a golf course (ok, there are greens fees...), tennis court, handball courts, a boating pavilion (rent a paddle boat) with a great restaurant on the water, a huge green house, etc. All Free. With the Central West end on the East and Washington University campus on the West, you can spend a very enjoyable day wandering about. Pictures attached of the newly renovated Forest Park Basin.

“Great city park - many free attractions”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

Forest Park in St. Louis is a beautiful, family-friendly place to visit. It is home to the world-renowned St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum, and the Missouri History Museum which all have FREE general admission! There are charges for special exhibits at the Zoo (Sea Lion Show, Children's Zoo, train, carousel), but the rest of this magnificent Zoo is FREE! There is lots of green space to enjoy, have a picnic, or play games. Forest Park is also home to the Muny, which features Broadway style musicals during the summer in an amazing outdoor setting. There are free seats in the back rows to enjoy these shows. (Hint: bring your binoculars.)
And of course there is the St. Louis Science Museum too (admission charged), with great hands-on exhibits and fun for the whole family.

Kudos to the City of St. Louis for keeping the wonderful attractions in Forest Park free for all to enjoy. This is a great place to escape and enjoy a relaxing time.

“Great Value”

Took the family there and had a great time. Traffic was a bear, arrive early and bring snacks for the kids. Great place to picnic or go on a date. A St. Louis must!
