“Nice place to stay...added charges to visa puzzling”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2009

We were given the number of the motel from the hospital since we were staying overnight for our son's surgery. The hotel was nice and the the people were polite. The only thing that bothered me was when we checked our charges on our debit card, there was an additional $75 charge which we weren't told would be there. When I called and asked the receptionist about the charges she replied it was a "liability insurance" and would be applied back to our card at time of check-out. When I asked her how long that would take she got rude and replied that wasn't up to her it was up to my bank as to how fast the money was back in there. I've not known any other hotel to ever be this way about a liability deposit. Other than that, we liked it.

  • Liked — The room was clean and comfortable
  • Disliked — $75 was charged to our visa without giving us any notice of the charges and not returned asap

We have stayed at the Parkway twice, in Sept. 2007 and Sept. 2008, in connection with meetings, for which the hotel offers a good discount. The rooms are fine, the front desk staff very helpful, and amenities above average: concierge breakfast and snacks, business center---both free. The concierge room is very small, however, with seating for no more than ten people, and it fills up pretty quickly.

The neighborhood contains good restaurants: Indian, Mediterranean, deli, St. Louis Bread Co. (which equals Panera). The Applebee's attached to the hotel is not as nice as the hotel itself, and it can get noisy late at night. Their food is never better than so-so.

The room key-card also opens the concierge center and operates the parking gate, but it doesn't always work, which can cause a traffic jam around the cramped parking entrance. But, once you're in, you've got a decent hotel in a good location at a pretty good price.

This is a nice hotel that is clean, well appointed, convenient, and has a friendly helpful staff. This was our second stay and we were pleased both times. It is connected to both Barnes Jewish and Children's Hospitals and is right next door to the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Upper West End of St. Louis is right next to Forest Park and convenient to many little trendy restaurants plus the Metrolink. Good hotel...I would definately stay here again.

Access to the hotel is pretty simple from the airport via the Metorlink train. It was about a 10-15 minute ride to the Central West End station that is closest to the hotel. Due to a lot of construction around the hotel, it is not entirely clear how to find the hotel once stepping off the train. Here is the best I can do: Go to your right at the top of the steps and walk straight until you come to the first major intersection (Forrest Park I think). Applebees will be on your right, take a right to the main entrance. I had to find my way when the wind chill was -1. Hopefully you will not have to explore so much. Remember to have cash on hand for the Metro link which has automated ticket kiosks there at the station. It is $2 for a one-way ticket and you should have correct change. Be prepared for someone to ask you for any change.

The check-in process was quick and I was given a king room on the 8th floor. The rooms are quite large and also have a microwave, fridge and a DVD player. The bathroom was a little small. You cannot open the door if using the toilet. So as long as only one person needs to be in the restroom, shouldn't be a problem. The closet was kind of big and I think they should have used that space for the bathroom.

Bed was comfortable. Hotel quiet. Business center is nice with printer access. The Applebees is located in the hotel and has good service and also provides room service if you want it.

The location is great if you are in St Louis for anything to do with St. Louis Childrens/Barnes Jewish Hospital/Washington University medical campus. They are all connected to the hotel by a walkway to avoid the -1 degree windchill.

  • Liked — Big room, access to walkway
  • Disliked — Small bathroom

Stayed at the Parkway for one night during a business trip and had a very comfortable stay. Front Desk customer service was excellent, the rooms were a bit larger than average with very comfortable beds. There's nothing about the place that is "jaw dropping"; it is a very nice and comfortable hotel. Applebee's restaurant is adjacent to hotel as well as the Barnes Jewish Hospital. Parking is complimentary as well as continental breakfast (on the 7th floor Conceirge level). However, I didn't notice any wireless/internet access options and there was no pay-per view movies offered. Overall, if you need a place to stay near the medical district, look no further than the Parkway!

I just wanted to say a big "Thank You" to the Parkway Hotel.
Our family stayed at the hotel for 4 days while my husband had sugery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The room was upsale in decor and had comfy beds. We also took advantage of the mini -frig. and microwave as well. The hotel is connected to the hospital by skywalk. It was such a blessing to come back to the hotel after 18 hours at the hospital and have a clean and quiet place to lay my head. You can contact the hospital and get a reduced patient rate. Worth every penny to a family with a sick loved one. Deb-Indiana
