“Disappointing Meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

The facilities are run down and were hot on a summer day; service was terrible (only one server working on the 4th of July), and food was average. They got my order wrong, and made no attempt to rectify the problem. I would pass on this restaurant ... there are too many other good places to try along The Loop.

“Possibly the world's worst Massaman curry”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

My wife and I went here for a quick dinner last night in between two films at The Tivoli, which is a few blocks away on Delmar. She ordered a vegetarian Pad Ped, which arrived quickly, was spiced as per her request (Thai hot), and was apparently quite tasty. I ordered a Massaman curry, which is one of the classic Thai curries and should contain chunks of slow-cooked beef, potatoes, and peanuts in a relatively thick coconut-based sauce with a characterisitc blend of spices. What arrived was a sad concoction of thin slivers of tough beef, a few fragments of disintegrating potato, virtually raw onion, and dry peanuts that appeared to have been thrown in from a jar at the last minute in a very thin broth with hardly any flavour. It was so disappointing and inedible that I sent it back and, as we were then running short of time, I didn't order anything else. If I owned a Thai restaurant, I would be ashamed to serve up a dish that was such a poor imitation of a Massaman curry. We won't be going back to the Thai Gai Yang Cafe. The best Thai food we have eaten in St. Louis so far was at The King and I at 3157 South Grand Ave.

“Thai ... Dissappointing !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Went with great expectations...returned disapointed. The menu was limited to chicken and veggies...no item in fish which is most unusual for a Thai Cafe. The shrimp came for an additional amount ! The house salad was a small serving of lettuce, neglible onion strips, carrot strips, and little pieces of tomatoes. The batter fried calamari was very very low on salt and not well done. The shrimp in the main dish tasted totally bland, more like blanched in steam and served less salt.
There was just one person attending to the customers that did not bode well for the restaurant. The ambience was good with lovely musical instruments hung on the walls. Prices very steep for the quality of food and portions served compared to other Thai restaurants.

“Not as good as it used to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

Good attentive service, but the food seems to be an afterthought. It seems as if they can't remember their own recipes and cook the same dishes consistently. Too bad. I used to eat there every week.
