The elk were just 5 feet from the car. We saw around 15 elk bucks, does, fawns. Pretty peacefull scenic loop drive, about 1/2 mile from Wild Bird Sanctuary another inteesting place to see. Both have free admission.
A leisurely drive among the...ELKS? The park is sort of like a wild animal park. A perimeter fence and cattle guard keep the elk inside, an inner fence and cattle guard isolate a buffalo herd. The elk are very tame, you can almost pet them (do not attempt this, however). Lots of fun.
Not only are you not allowed to walk your dogs here, but you also are not even allowed to drive through with dogs in the car. Know this before you make the trek out there during superhot weather to drive through in air conditioned comfort to see the elk.
It is a great place to stop for a picnic or a detour from St. Louis shopping. We try to guess how many animals we will see, then whomever is closest gets to pick where we go for ice cream.
A great place to view large native animals up close, Bison and Elk. Also home to the world bird sanctuary! Beautiful fall colors this month!
