“Clean, good, but limited”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Although it is free...the special exhibitions are priced. Therefore, a free visit here means about 20 minutes if you are a typical person, perhaps and hour if you are someone who considers themselves a history buff. It's a nice place, but don't plan on it being your entire afternoon activity unless you plan to visit other Forest Park attractions.

“The World's Fair Exhibit was our Favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

There is no reason not to visit the History Museum. It's free, well done, and very interesting. We saw the History of Lingerie. Hadn't ever contemplated the variety of things women's undergarments communicate about culture. Our favorite exhibit was about the 1904 World's Fair. We came in really not knowing anything about it and felt we left with a lot of knowledge and an appreciation. We did not have enough time to do much more than that. We hope to return if we ever make it back to St. Louis.

“An informative an interesting museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is the Missouri history museum, but most of the history deals with St. Louis. A current exhibit entitled " The Civil War In Missouri" provides amazing & little known details of the Civil War in Missouri. This is a special exhibit which cost $10 a person to see with discounts to veterans & seniors. The rest of the museum is free. There were exhibit halls on St Louis history, the 1904 World's Fair, women's underwear, and fire when my wife & I were there. There is also a replica of Charle's Lindbergh's airplane "The Spirit of St Louis" hanging from the ceiling there. This is in Forest Park, so the zoo & other neat Forest Park attractrions are close by. This is a definite must for any history buff!!

“Worth The Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

While in St. Louis recently, my wife and I made our first visit to the museum because they offered an exhibit entitled " The Civil War In Missouri; unsure of it's availability or duration.
We went during the week, so the crowds and parking were not a problem at all.

On entering the museum, we were greeted and given information on no-charge exhibits that were available that day, as well as ticketing information on the civil war exhibit. After ticketing, we spent some time in the exhibit, which was very well done and interactive. A self guided tour was not a problem at all.

We are told that the museum has a very nice restaurant on-site, although we didn't try it.

All in all, a clean, well run museum that is well staffed and worth a visit if your travels bring you to the St. Louis area. I'm sure with a phone call or through their web site you can determine what the current exhibit offerings are.

The cost of the senior tickets for the civil war exhibit were $ 8.00 each; other exhibits were no charge.

“GREAT PLACE TO VISIT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

Great to visit if a local or a tourist. One of the things I miss about living in the St. Louis area is not being able to drop by such a museum on a whim. Free admission. Great traveling/temp exhibits too. Yes, they cost money, but what doesn't. lol
