I am not catholic but this is definitely worth the time and effort to make a visit. It is just a beautiful structure. It is gorgeous. So many mosaics and intricate works of religious art to look at. So much history and inspiration. I feel lucky to have visited.
The Cathedral Basilica is one of the most beautiful churches in the world. It is worth a visit. And it is really close to Forest Park.
Intricate and serene. A place steeped in history and charm. A must visit while in town. Do check the visiting hours before you plan a trip.
We had not planned to go to the Cathedral,but had some extra time, and were told it was beautiful. Words can't describe the beauty, and at each turn and corner , it is even more beautiful.
You are also able to take a virtual tour online at the Cathedral website, although it is far better in person!
Although I have to St. Louis many times over the years I did not know about this little gem. Romanesque architecture with Byzantine interior. I felt like we were in another time and place. The mosaics were the thing to see here. 83,000 square feet total that were assembled between 1912 and 1988. Be sure to pick up the brochures that define the religious significance of each artistic mosaic. I would have liked to sign up for a tour, but this was a last minute decision. I would like to plan our next visit with a guided tour and to spend some time in the museum ($2 admission).
