This is a tricky one. Our upgraded room (who knew why) was large but we were strongly urged to only use one bed since we were upgraded after all. OK. Bathroom is beyond tiny with no room to sit on the stool and close the door. Room had old style atmosphere that was very charming with a big window, lace curtains and looked out over the Soulard area. the area is gay and the restaurant/bar next door is awesome.
Gary is very congenial. the other owner is downright surly with mood swings one minute really snipy then tries to make up for it. He does stay outside in the courtyard all day smoking and listening to very loud music. So if you don't mind a funky vibe with a moody host in a cool neighborhood and are gay, this is a fun place to stay. It is not that easy to find and you may drive past it.
St. Louis is very hot and muggy in the summer and they do have fans and a window AC. You'll need them.
