I stayed at this hotel for two nights and actually really liked it while I was there. We booked through Expedia and due to some problem they could not find our reservation when we arrived, and it took about 45 minutes to check in, but the staff at the front desk was very apologetic. When we did get to our rooms, they were very nice and spacious. Location is good, very near downtown tourist attractions, though the area is very dead at night.
I did initially give this hotel a very good rating and would have recommended it to others. However, when I checked my credit card statement a few days later, I found two charges from the hotel totalling $200, even though I had paid via Expedia when I booked. I called the hotel and was told this was probably a security deposit charge ($50 per room, per night), which would be refunded in several days. I thought this was bizarre, as most hotels take a credit card authorisation for damage deposits, but do not actually charge this to your card. However, I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
After several days, the charges were still not refunded, so I called the front desk manager, who was sympathetic and said she would call VISA about the transactions. She immediately emailed me to say she was unable to confirm details of transactions on my card with VISA (standard, of course, that they would not discuss my card with her), but that she believed it was an authorisation and I should contact VISA to confirm no charges had been made. VISA confirmed they had, so I emailed back saying so and asking for confirmation of my refund.
Nearly a week and several ignored emails later, I still have not had a response nor had the charges refunded.
I am travelling and should not have to deal with the trouble of chasing the hotel for a refund of money they should never have charged me, nor the hassle of opening a dispute with VISA to get the money back, which is what I will have to do since the hotel has decided to ignore me. It's a shame because the hotel is nice, but I can't recommend that anybody stay in a place where they may have money taken from them!
