“Older Hotel in Downtown”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Checked into hotel and at first sight it was a nice old fashioned hotel right in the heart of downtown St. Louis. We checked in at the front desk and when we arrived at our room we were shocked to see the room hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. The room was also in rough shape and needed some TLC especially with the paint. We went to the front desk and they quickly gave us a new room which was much nicer than the one we saw. This room was nice and spacious with plenty of room. Only down side with the room is there was no mini fridge. We only stayed one night and when we went to leave by girlfriend had a horrible time checking out. They could not find the reservation and kept asking if she booked with a 3rd party when we actually booked directly with the hotel. Then when they found everything and checked us out they forgot the AAA discount so we had to get that updated. Overall I would say this is a decent hotel with a very good location. If your going to the Arch, Convention Center, or visiting downtown this is a good spot for you. The rooms were ok but service is lacking. Also be in mind if in St. Louis the Metro is an easy way to get around so you can see other options.

Room Tip: Room on the 15th floor was nicer than the 8th

“Nice hotel but could use some TLC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I spent a weekend in St. Louis to catch a Cardinals game and see the city. The location of the hotel was great - easy walk to the stadium and the arch. Parking was just down the street and not too expensive given downtown location. The service we received was good and friendly at all times. The room was big with a small sitting room and bedroom. Much more homey than a traditional hotel room. The room was recently updated but lacked a professionally finished feel...nothing terrible or reason not to stay though. Just a bit mismatched. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return if in the area again.

“I was robbed at this hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

I stayed at the Roberts Mayfair Hotel in June while attending a convention. At first glance, it's a beautiful historical hotel with comfortable rooms. Unfortunately, there was an ongoing problem with the room keys not working. Several of us who were staying there had to keep going down to the front desk to get new ones and sometimes a hotel employee had to personally come up to let me in my room. Once I left the hotel and returned to Kansas City, I realized that 3 of my checks were missing out of the back of my checkbook and $720 was stolen out of my checking account. I immediately called my bank and filed a police report with the St. Louis police. It was obvious that the theft happened at this hotel because my checks were zipped up in my rolling case and locked up in the room. I contacted the General Manager, Peter, and told him what had occurred. I was surprised at his lack of sympathy. Not once did he say he was sorry about the incident. He agreed though that it would be a good idea to document what I told him into an email. I sent that email to him at the end of June and again just a couple of days ago. He has yet to respond to my request or cooperate with the detective in finding out who could be the thief among his staff. One would think that he would want to find out who the thief is. I would stay away from this hotel. But if you decide to stay there, make sure to leave your valuables at home because there is no safe available in the room.

“Awful place to stay.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012 via mobile

Where to begin...I stayed here for a convention in June 2012. I arrived late on a Monday and was greeted by a friendly front desk worker and 3 of his closest friends, who were hanging out, keeping him company. The room was stuffy, and had a sticky spot on the tile floor, which was taken care of the next day. I'm not sure why the armoire was in the middle of the room and not against the wall. I suffered from a stuffy nose while I was in the room, but not when I was in the convention center. Mold, perhaps? It was 106 outside so the pool would have been great, but it was closed. I tried to use the laundry services, as I was traveling for 10 days, and the gentleman working handed me my dirty clothes and explained that they forgot to send them. Sweet. Overall, very poor experience. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

Dear Guest,
Thanks for taking the time to comment on your recent visit.
Please note that our employees are not allowed to have visitors, and after investigating I ascertained that the persons you saw were actually guests of the hotel who were returning after an evening on the town.
As noted in other reviews below, our pool has been closed this season due to hail damage, and was promoted as such over all booking channels. Nonetheless, we do understand your disappointment with the temperatures being in excess of 100 degrees.
I have also investigated the room in which you stayed and found no sign of mold. In the future if this occurs to you when travelling, most hotels (the Mayfair included), can provide pillows with synthetic filling, which can sometimes help.
Finally, the manner in which your laundry was handled is completely unacceptable, and please accept my sincere apologies. I have already addressed the matter with my team to insure that this behavior is not repeated.
We sincerely regret that your visit was not up to your expectations, and again, thank you for taking the time to comment.
Sincerely,
Peter Arscott

“A Bit of History”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

To start it off, you have to understand that this is a hotel on the National Historical Registry for a reason. Please do not expect it to be like it was built yesterday, but enjoy it for the ambiance that comes with age. Our room consisted of a large bedroom, large living room, and a large bath & hygiene area in between. It also had a dining table, a small desk area, and two TVs. It was as much an apartment as it was a hotel room. We even had wifi.
The down side was the pool was under repair, and the coffee shop was closed the entire time we were there. We didn't use the room service, so I have no idea if it was running or not but the prices on the menu in the room were comparable to a restaurant in the area. Parking is off site because back in the day when it was built, people arrived more by horse and carriage than personal cars. No chocolate on pillows or dressing robes either.
The staff were all very pleasant and welcoming. We stayed here because I love the old historical hotels.

Room Tip: Corner suite was real nice and roomy.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Mayfair. We appreciate your kind remarks.
Indeed the Mayfair is steeped in history, the building dating back to 1925. Throughout the years improvements have been made, but we have always tried to keep the ambiance alive.
We are thrilled that you enjoyed your visit, and hope to see you again in the future.
Sincerely,
