Owner description: Soulard Market is the oldest farmers market west of the Mississippi established in 1779 and is open Wednesday-Saturday. We have 13 local farmers, 1 organic farmer, a florist and spice shop, lots of food and a bunch of produce vendors that handle local and shipped in goods. The market also carries a variety of other general merchandise like shirts, jewelry, incense, sports memorabilia, hand made soaps, carpet, photography and hand made crafts. We are open 52 weeks a year.

“Great farmer's market in a great city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

Soulard has a very large market, with a great variety of produce and other goods for sale. It's all enclosed, so weather shouldn't affect the turnout or selection.

The building is laid out in an "H" floorplan, with each of the legs of the "H" divided into 2 halls.
The connector between the legs has some fast food and knicknack vendors, as well as public bathrooms.

There's metered parking in a lot across the street, as well as lots of street parking nearby.

If you like fresh food, check it out!

“Hectic, but an experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

My wife and I visited the Soulard market on a Saturday morning, which is most likely the busiest time. It was wall-to-wall people, but was worth it for us. There are some t-shirt and trinket type stands, but the majority of this is produce. The variety is excellent and the prices vary from cheap to super cheap. Many stands will negoitiate price with you to some degree, but we didn't see the need. There are also plenty of baked goods the be had. the interior of the market contains a meat market and a few carry-out food options. If we lived closer (30 minutes away) we would make more frequent trips for the experience and quality food a good prices.

“GREAT START TO A WEEKEND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

We were spending a weekend in St. Louis - first stop, Soulard Market - it was the first time for me but nowhere near the first for my traveling companions and they knew the Market as if it was their local Corner Grocer. The Prices were good, nearly ALL of the food looked good and "real" and it was obvious that much was local. The vendors were all friendly and organized This will be a new destination to take visitors for me and one I will highly recommend to anyone going to St. Louis - Chalk up any "terrible" reviews to "citified" people who want their markets sparkling clean and shiny new or very "trendy" Soulard Market beats many of these IMO. Are there "better" markets out there?" I won't lie, yes there are I have been to some in other countries that are breath taking, BUT not many in the USA that are better - for a Midwest market they are very worthy of spending a few hours, sampling away and picking up some REALLY good locally grown and made items.

“Dissapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

Arrived Thursday around 1:00pm and very few vendors were there. What was there was good and made a few purchases. It's open Wednesday to Saturday and was not expecting it to be so empty!

We are sorry that you were disappointed in the number of stands that were open but glad that you were happy with the purchases that you did make. Saturdays the entire market is 100% full, Fridays about 50% full, and Wednesday and Thursdays 20% full. The fact that our market covers two city blocks makes it hard to fill during slower days like Wednesdays and Thursday. Thanks again for visiting.

“Fun stroll”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

I do not live in St Louis so I did not really need any of the groceries. For a local this place would be fabulous with excellent choices/variety and prices. As a guest still very fun to walk around and see everything. As a guest, however, I was surprised and disappointed at the paucity of prepared food choices to eat while strolling-quite surprised and a goldmine for someone will to open a booth.
