The Missouri Botanical Garden has everything you'd expect and more. I have been visiting this site for decades, and it never disappoints. I have gone with my family, friends, and my 6th grade students. I have gone for a short visit (90 minutes), and I have spent the entire day. The garden is divided into themed areas that highlight specific plants for that genre. There is a special area for children of all ages as well as special attractions that change from year to year. Every person that has joined me at the garden has had a memorable experience. Whether you just want to enjoy the beauty that the garden offers, or make a point of learning while you are there, you will have a wonderful time.
If it's warm enough, be prepared to let your children run through the fountains located throughout the garden.
Bring quarters to buy food for the fish in the Japanese Garden area.
Have your list of gardening questions ready for the helpful experts to answer.
If you're planning a landscaping project, bring a sketch pad. You'll want to take notes of plants and design options that you see.
If you are a teacher - visit the garden or the garden website and have a scavenger hunt activity booklet ready. My 6th grade boys wrote poetry amid the streams of the English Woodland Garden!
There's plenty of free parking, wheelchair availability, and a tram if needed.
Bring some spending money because the gift shop is amazing.
There is a restaurant and a snack shop on the grounds as well as vending machines. Nice.
