I was surprised how long the walk was from the parking lot through the park and to the Arch.
We arrived about 9:30 am on Saturday morning Dec. 28th.There were about 25 people ahead of us and it took about 15 minutes to get through security.
We purchased our tickets ( reduced price for National Park Pass holders) and were assigned a time to report to the line. There is a photo opportunity while following the line: 2 photos of you are taken and are available for purchase on the main level.
All moved smoothly but be aware that there were a number of short flights of stairs to climb to the pods. A short movie was shown while waiting .
I was pleasantly surprised that the pods were larger than I had expected and ours seated 1 child and 4 adults comfortably. There were 2 windows on the door which faced the inner walls to look through as we moved up the arch. I did not feel it was claustrophobic at all !!!!
The views from the top made the trip worthwhile and there were plenty of windows to look out of. They were large enough to take great photos.
The Gateway Arch is well staffed with friendly, helpful employees.
Upon leaving we noticed that the South entrance had a much shorter line than the North entrance. It just might be worth the extra walking if you are there at a busy time.
We then enjoyed strolling around the property and watching the barges on the river.
We are happy that we took the opportunity to spend time at this marvelous property.
