Owner description: The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

Went here today. It is so much fun to go up the specialized elevator that goes to the top. It truly is a work of engineering. I got alot of pictures of the Arch, both inside and our and even got a video of the pod coming down the Arch. The pod is a little small but even if you dn't like tight spaces, the trip is only 4 minutes and really not to bad. The museum was great and the gift shop was nice too. It is a fun place to visit.

“More than just a bucket list attraction.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The tram to the top was broken when we arrived so we waited about an hour while they fixed it. During that time we just walked through the Westward Expansion Museum. It was slightly overcast at the top but no less exciting. Avoid the tram if you have any inclination of claustrophobia whatsoever. There is even a sample tram for you to try out before hand.

Make reservations for the tram ride before your visit. When something unexpected happens, like a break down, the schedule backs up fast so walk-in visitors were out of luck.

“Better than I remember from past visits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

I hadn't been to the Arch in probably 20 years. We've driven by it literally dozens of times since, and our kids always asked when they could get up close to see it. Well, we planned time on a recent weekend to St. Louis. We were pleasantly surprised at how interesting the museum in the base of the Arch was. Even though I pre-purchased our tickets to the top, we had to wait while the elevators were repaired. That was a little nerve wracking -- the kids worried the elevator would break down while we were on it, but everything was fine. At first they weren't too organized on how to handle those of us who were waiting, but soon they got it together and came up with a system where we didn't have to just stand in line and wait, but rather could visit the museum without losing our place in line for when the elevator was fixed.

The historical movie about making the Arch was fascinating, we had a great time at the top, and also had a lot of fun taking pictures from many different angles outside. They had a nice gift shop, too. All in all, a great experience.

“Wonderful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

If you don't mind tight spaces you will enjoy going to the top of the Arch for a spectacular view. If you are a little clautrophobic you can skip going up and just wander around the free museum at the bottom.
