Owner description: The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

“A MUST!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

Great views from outside, underneath, up top, everywhere! There's a museum in the bottom following Louis & Clark across country as well as detailed info on the history of the Arch, itself. You can take a quick ride to the top and get an amazing view of the city!

“What a view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

Great views, interesting exhibits at the base. Even though I'm claustrophobic, I manage to take the ride to the top. I've done it multiple times, always when people are visiting us.

“Great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2011

Great view from the top but you won't spend more than 20-30 minutes up there. Gets a little crowded. You are a little stuffed on the ride up with 5 to a car. We really liked the walk from the North to the arch with the leaves changing colors.

“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2011

This was our first time seeing the Arch and we were really struck by its size. It is beautiful in the sunlight and moonlight, awe inspiring. Be sure to tour the exhibits under the Arch - the movie about its construction is fascinating. We didn't know you could go to the top, and that was an experience we'll never forget. Not for those who suffer from claustrophobia. There is a sample tram car that you can "test" out before going up just in case.

“Beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

We were fortunate to have a very clear day. The wait in line, through various areas prior to the ride to the top, wasn't very interesting, but it was worth it. My husband doesn't like heights and he was fine with this. It's worth the trip.
