Going to Rockbridge Trout and Game Ranch was a late afternoon adventure over winding and twisting roads but it was well worth the enjoyable drive. My East Coast brother wanted great freshwater fish and Rockbridge Trout and Game Ranch delivered.
Although it is about 15 miles off the main road (Route 5) south of Ava, Missouri, it is a surprise for first time visitors. There is lodging, fishing, hiking, horseback riding all in a beautiful Ozark setting.
But, I'm here to talk about the restaurant. It's casual fine dining meaning that you don't need to get dressed to the nine to enjoy a superb meal. I had Amaretto Trout Almondine and the other members of my party had Blackened Trout. We were all delighted with the freshness of the fish. The portions were huge!
Although we had a reservation and were late in arriving, we had to wait to be seated. They didn't have a large wait staff on Thursday evening. However, our waitress was extremely friendly and very efficient. She had us laughing and giggling as she opened our wine. Throughout the meal she checked on us regularly and attended to our every want.
We found the prices reasonable - mostly in the mid teens to low 20's. We had three meals and wine and a tab around $75. Can't beat that for the quality we received.
Everyone took home a box as none of us were able to eat more than half the fish served. So. we had another fine meal the next evening.
I'll go back again. Also, I'd love to plan a family reunion here. The youngsters would have such a good time in the outdoors and it'd be like our our private retreat.
