The College of the Ozarks was on a list of must see places near Branson and the dining room, Dobyns, was recommended. It did not disappoint. I would suggest making reservations if possible because even in the shoulder tourist season we had a 40 minute wait, which was okay because there were exhibits and a gift shop to browse in. Apparently for Mother's Day brunch they have hundreds of guests and have several sittings. The dining room is a large, airy, high ceilinged room with lots of carved wood in a rustic, but elegant style. The length of the room is defined by a series of large windows that look out over a lovely pastoral view with a church spire in the background. The wait staff are excellent considering that they are all students with various levels of experience. The food is innovative, fresh and worthy of any first class restaurant. They do a farm to table experience which means that the food is as fresh and local as possible. I had a pasta carbonara and the ham and bacon were cured on site from the pigs that they raised on their farm.
This is a place where you would want to come back often and to celebrate special events. One family were having a 90th birthday luncheon while we were there. If you're visiting Branson you must make this one of your stops. While this might be considered more formal dining, it is really quite affordable.
