“Sadly, JRay's is now closed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

We met with a friend yesterday, 9-27-2013, and planned to dine afterwards at our favorite spot in Platte City. When we approached the front door, a sign gave the bad news--regretfully, JRays is closed.

We always had great food here, often common items were prepared with a distinctive flair. This place will be missed. Our last visit was September 13 and all was good at that time.

“friendly and deliciousand lots of choices!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

We were in Kansas City, MO for a family occasion and looking for a spot to have lunch near our motel in Platte City, MO. We went on TripAdvisor and saw that JRay's was close and rated very high. We read each traveler's reviews and were excited. It opens at 11:00 Am; we arrived at 11:15 and we were glad we did. It has a steady lunch crowd. We were impressed by our server, Liah. She was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, prompt, attentive and very personable and cheerful - a welcome face after an airplane ride of 4-5 hours.
One of us ordered a grilled chicken sandwich on an onion roll ($9.79) with onion strings (huge helping of thin cut onion straws - enough to split with another person) and the other ordered a BLT ($6.99) with a side of Cajun mac & cheese. You get your sandwiches with a choice of bread - white, wheat, marble rye, amoroso hogie, hamburger bun, onion roll, pretzel roll or wrap). WOW! The sides includes 4 different kinds of fries, loaded fries or chips, coleslaw, fruit, cottage cheese, onion strings, mac & cheese or vegetable medley. You won't believe this - there are 4 kinds of mac & cheese they offer: traditional, three cheese, seafood, and Cajun. The menu also includes appetizers, salads, soups and burgers. The presentation of each dish was mouth-watering. Our sandwiches were perfect; our sides were delicious! You can't leave hungry.
Liah described a wonderful treat, cake balls, which were displayed in a case by the door. The many varieties of cake balls are homemade fresh daily. Each delicacy sells for $1.50. We tried a peanut butter one and their famous key lime one. Delectable!
JRay's also offers take-out and event catering. On our 4 day visit, we are going to go back - we have our eyes on the Chicken Caesar salad and the Strawberry Spinach salad.
Thank you, Emily (co-owner) and Liah for your warmth and hospitality.

“Perfectly okay.”

Nothing wrong (or great) about this place. Friendly, quick. You won't go for the ambience, but you also won't be offended by anything.

“Good burger!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

I stopped in on a weeknight when I had a little more time than usual for dinner. I sat at the bar and had a great time chatting with the locals. I had the Blue Moon burger and it was gigantic! The burger was a little messy, but definitely tasty. The bartender was friendly and helped me make a good choice for my meal. I would go back.
