Heard nothing but great things about this place so went and tried it out for lunch with my family. Ordered 3 vegetarian meals and 2 with meat. The fresh spring rolls, which on the menu have a GF and V on it, we ordered as vegetarian spring rolls. They came out first and we all proceeded to dig in straight away. Turns out the vegetarian spring rolls were not vegetarian and not only that but they contained prawns. Not only am I vegetarian I am also allergic to seafood. We called the manager over and she proceeded to tell us that we couldn't have ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, as today they didn't have vegetarian spring rolls. We all (all 4 of us) proceeded to confirm that we had all had heard the spring rolls be ordered as vegetarian.
The manager didn't seem concerned at all that she had served a customer prawns which they were allergic to or meat which they didn't eat.
She asked if there was anything she could do in which I replied that I no longer felt like eating at all. She voided that one item off the bill. I then left and went up to the chemist to purchase an antihistamine as I was having an allergic reaction. While my allergy is not severe it is very uncomfortable and unpleasant.
The rest of the table was tucking into their meals, which they all said were nice, with the exception of my dad who still hadn't received his meal. When we made the manager aware that we were still waiting on a meal she said 'It would be out soon'. By the time my dad received his meal the rest of the table had finished eating. So we all sat and waiting for my dad to finish his meal.
Once finished we asked for the meal (the spring rolls were voided off the bill). I went up to pay so I could have a quiet word to the manager. I informed her that I just had to go up to the chemist as I was having an allergic reaction to which she didn't seemed concerned at all. She replied but I gave you $20 worth of free food (She has sent out a different vegetarian meal while I was away at the chemist), I just wanted to make her aware that the food industry these days needs to be more aware of allergies etc and if a table orders 3 meals all vegetarian then they should ask if someone is vegetarian same goes if someone asks for not seafood, for example, it should be written on the docket to the chef that there is a food allergy regardless of whether they order it or not.
The manager continued to repeat she has given me $20 worth of free food and that she had spoken to the waiter who took our order (That waiter didn't even come over and apologize for the stuff up), she claimed the waiter didn't hear us say vegetarian even though all 4 of us heard it.
I felt the whole situation was handled very badly; whatever happened to the customer is always right. There seemed to be no concern whatsoever that I had consumed meat and seafood. If you have an allergy to anything I suggest you make it overly clear that you have if you choose to dine here. Although the $20 offering of food was a nice gesture it was not the solution I was after. And there was no explanation or apology for the very very late meal, which in my opinion was forgotten.
Oh and throw into the mix, the fact I have been meat free for 3 years all went down the drain literally because the menu stated that the meal could be vegetarian. In all honesty I wanted that whole sitting for free. Why? Because there were 4 other people in the café at the time so there is no excuse for it, it wasn’t busy, they were not understaffed nothing, just pure failure to serve what they have on the menu and care for what happened.
