We'd been here a few years ago, trying both the dining room and the hibachi side and weren't impressed at all - dirty silverware, broken glass, unimpressive service. We decided to go back for the lunch buffet to try it out and see how things are going. Have to say it hasn't gotten much better.
First off, the buffet area is across the dining room from the seating area - you have to cross the front door to get there. There were three stacks of 'clean' plates, and the top plate on one was dirty, so that stack sat there the entire time - no staff noticed to clean it up.
The miso soup was just warm. I'm not sure just putting it in a quarter pan in a chafing dish was the best idea for soup. The bowls of nori, mushrooms and tofu outside the pan was a nice touch. The spring rolls were fried, which was odd as they are usually in a rice wrap. I didn't take one, so I'm not sure of the difference between that and the egg roll. The fried butterfly shrimp were crispy and good. The teriyaki pork had been breaded, but was now soggy and chewy, and the gyoza in the other side of the chafing dish were a bit rubbery, and there was no dipping sauce anywhere to be seen for those. The shrimp and noodle dish was ok, with lots of shrimp.
The sushi service was not fantastic. There was a pan of sushi, which was mostly empty when we got there and never refilled. The pieces of tuna I did get were fresh. The center pan had two kinds of fried rolls, and was mostly filled at first, but emptied and did not get refilled until we were walking out the door. They should be making smaller quantities and keeping it coming so it is hot/warm and fresh. The last pan had three or four different kinds of seafood rolls, but basic stuff. Krab on the inside, tuna on top. Krab on the inside, Krab and crunchy on top. Nothing inspiring or anything past the basic. That pan did get refilled. As far as I could tell, there was no ice or anything to keep these pans cool.
Service was ok. Server did not bring soy sauce bowls for sushi until we had already snagged some soup bowls from the buffet. Not too speedy, but kept water filled, but overhead that one table next to us got an incorrect bill, and another got the wrong drinks.
Drink menu says "Martini's" with an apostrophe. Sigh.
For the price of the lunch buffet (and we had a coupon), I think we'd go elsewhere for lunch next time.
