Description: Head chef & owner of Ranoush, Aboud Alhamid brings to Saint Louis the finest combination of Middle Eastern cuisine. Aboud hails from Syria, the heart of the Middle East. He incorporates his mom’s home & family recipes along with the freshest ingredients to Ranoush’s menu in order for customers to enjoy a truly authentic Syrian experience. Aboud is grateful to be here in the land of opportunity, realizing his dream of building cultural connections between the East and West through food & enjoyment. So what does “Ranoush” mean, you ask? It is an Arabic lady’s nickname – Aboud named his restaurant after his wife. Here at Ranoush, Aboud offers you the Syrian experience from the heart of the Middle East. Enjoy! And Ahlan wa sahlan!

“Nothing else like it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

I have been enjoying Ranoush since the first days of the Delmar location! Nothing else like it. Best hummus anywhere. You will never want store bought again! Food is made from scratch from grandmas recipes. Baklava is lightly sweet, nutty, and not oily. I crave it as well as Haloumi cheese and the mint tea made with fresh mint leaves. There are plenty of dishes for carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans to all be happy. It is like going to Syrian home and enjoying a meal with friends.

“I guess I'm just not ready yet.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

First I should say, I don't really do great with new and different foods. This place probably deserves a better rating, its just my personal taste. I enjoyed it as a different experience, but didn't love the food. I would like to go back and try a different dish. My wife and I went here on a "date night" and we order a sampler platter for two. I should say before I get to the food that the atmosphere is pretty unique and fun. The service was perfect. Very attentive but not overbearing or rushing us. Friendly and helpful to people unfamiliar with middle eastern food without being condesending while explaining things.

I don't remember the names of the different items on our platter. I remember bobaganoush and humus by name. There were a couple other similar items that you ate on the pita bread that I enjoyed to verying degrees. The humus was my favorite, there was one item I really did not like. Additionally there were 3 fried dumpling-type items. One was stuffed with lambs meat and another with ground up chickpeas. There were ok. There was one filled with cheese that was AMAZING.

All in all it was a cool experience with food that ranged from very good to not good at all.

“Mid-eastern on Delmar Loop”

Reliable variety of mid-eastern specialties. Also have outdoor seating during warmer weather where you can enjoy a hookah.

“Authenic Middle Eastern fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Great food and service with tasty dishes...excellent use of spices, balanced to provide optimum compliments to the entrees. The drink selection is a bit limited, but of good value.

“Distinctive dishes in the heart of Kirkwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Middle Eastern... covers a lot of territory. The food is delicious, fairly priced, served with style and friendly waiter, in a comfortable setting. What more do you want?
