We stayed overnight at the HI Express on a Reward stay, the night before an early flight out. Since it was a Reward stay, we paid $3/day for parking during our trip, which is still cheaper than anywhere else. The young man who checked us in was pleasant and helpful, but told us for future reference that we night want to call ahead if we were going to check in late (9 PM) to make sure there was a parking place available and a spot on the shuttle at the time we wanted. We got both with no problem.

The room was on the small side but I guess that's why they call it "Express"- not meant for a long, luxurious stay. They did have a pool and a breakfast buffet that included waffles, bagels, fruit and even biscuits with sausage gravy. (We didn't try the latter. Our cardiologist won't let us.) The pool and exercise room were small; I didn't use either.

We didn't sleep well- combination of too much "white noise" from the heating/AC system and then really heavy winds that practically rattled the window when we turned the fan off. Beds were very comfortable, though. TV reception wasn't great- some stations were fuzzy and others had intemittent "fuzzy attacks".

Our morning wake-up call came when promised. The shuttle driver, very cheerful for 6 AM, took our bags out to the van as soon as he saw us. They needed to send a second van for the overflow at 6 AM, but luckily we were on the first one.

We'd stay at the Holiday Inn Express again if the rate is right- just the basics, but close to the airport and dependable.

Best point -- the airport shuttle was easy and dependable.

Housekeeping was lackluster -- we had hair in the tub, and the vanity was not clean, especially under the toiletry stand.

Front desk staff was not always present - once had to wait 10 minutes for service (I was the only one at the front desk - no line) at about 9 in the morning, a normal time to expect someone there.

The fitness room had no treadmill, and the bike was broken. It is possible that the stair-climber worked, but I didn't try it.

Breakfast was free, and adequate. Nice location, but not well-kept or staffed.

My wife and I stayed here before flying out on our honeymoon. We had reserved - and paid for - a room with a whirlpool, but when we checked in they had already booked all the whirlpool rooms. The front desk attendant did get us into a suite room, but that room had two empty beer cans sitting on the counter and had a distinct smell, similar to what other reviewers have mentioned. The hot tub next to the pool wasn't exactly hot, more lukewarm. The breakfast was decent. The airport service was very good; we left our car at the hotel while we were gone and the drop offs and pick ups were very convenient. Overall, not a good stay, but the hotel itself was fairly decent - not really up to Holiday Inn Express standards, but I'd say it's comparable to a Red Roof Inn or a Motel 6.

Ho Hum, It was a Hotel Room. Other than a great Desk Clerk Jennifer, the Hotel was just OK. Let me tell you about Jennifer. She let me check in at 9:00 AM after taking a 4 hour red eye flight. During my stay and each and every time I walked by her, while she was on duty, she looked up, smiled and said something nice. In my mind, she was the face of this Hotel. While resting I noticed that the entire Room was shaking, which didn't bother me since I am from California and all the shaking felt familiar, but no it wasn't an earthquake. I called the desk and was told that my room was above the washing machines and dryers and that's what was causing the shaking. Even though I was dead tired, I stayed in the room and waited until around 11 am for the dryers to stop. overall it was an average stay and I might go back, just to see Jennifer and say hello.
The Pool area was small and the cement was slippery. The Hotel location was near the Airport, but nothing interesting was close by to get excited about. Don't get me wrong, the Hotel was fine, just not memorable.
If I ever go back to Kansas City, I will try something different........
