“great service and convenient shuttle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

upon arrival linda the manager could not find our rez, but did get us in a room that was 25 dollars less than the room i thought I had booked online...the rooms were clean and large.
we had a family check in above us before we left for supper and the small kids were running around and it sounded like they were playing hockey above us....we mentioned this to linda and told her we were hoping to sleep in the next day and concerned that maybe the kids would be up early running around...she didn't hesitate to get us another room that had a family that was attending a late concert above us...and we did not hear any noise in the new room...we used the shuttle service to go out to eat and to get back...we will stay here again as they shuttle to the plaza and you get a huge room with kitchen for about half the price as on the plaze.

Hi I was there for 5 weeks for work. The staff was very accommodating to me, as well as my group. The rooms was large and I enjoyed having a fire place even thou, I did not need to use it. I enjoyed using the kitchen as it had everything, I needed to cook. The beds was nice and did a great job to sleep in.

Room Tip: try to get a room away from the street if you need quiet, it didn't bug me but bug a few of my...

Do not hesitate to stay here. Very sweet staff and management and, most importantly, very clean and comfortable. The location is central to everything. Breakfast is a pretty standard continental with nothing fancy but it will start your day.

After a disappointing second stay at the Fairfield Inn, I turned to its next-door neighbor, the Residence Inn Union Hill. I arrived in the early evening and check-in was efficient. The associate relayed the breakfast hours and asked my preference for a ground floor or second floor room. The hotel layout is typical of the early Residence Inns – multiple buildings with exterior access to rooms. The studio suite was on par with other Residence Inns in terms of space and amenities. The room was starting to show wear on the carpet and tear on the door hinges. The towels were also paper thin, so it would behoove the hotel to replace them. On the positive side, the room was impeccably clean.

The breakfast was equal to other Residence Inns with a variety of hot and cold entrees. Since this was a weekend stay, I did not have an opportunity to indulge in the weekday happy hour. I also did not have a chance to visit the exercise facility nor to relax at the pool.

In summary, the hotel will not earn style points, the fundamentals are in place – clean and spacious rooms. In deciding whether to stay here or at the neighboring Fairfield Inn, I would suggest that you consider price/value and length of stay. The Residence Inn was $30 per night higher than the Fairfield Inn when I reviewed the rates. Both offer complimentary breakfast and wireless internet, so these are non-factors. The key question is whether or not the extra space and kitchen at the Residence Inn is worth the extra cost. For a short-term stay, I would opt for the Fairfield Inn. For a one-week or longer stay, the kitchen may help to offset the extra cost. Plus you’ll be more comfortable.

Pros: Spacious suites, complimentary breakfast and internet

Cons: Starting to show wear and tear

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and for choosing Residence Inn. We are very glad that you enjoyed your visit and that your check in was efficient and room very clean. We have a fabulous housekeeping team here, I am very fortunate. We regret your towels were thin. We just received a new shipment, come back soon and give them a try!

Best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season.

Well below the standards of a typical Residence Inn. Rooms need more updating and maintenance. The carpet had holes, the microwave was vintage 1992 and would start on its own after use. The shower had mold on the wallpaper, which is unacceptable for a Residence Inn. The WiFi was very week. Maybe that was in keeping with the 1990's theme. Breakfast was just OK but the Hampton Inn and Courtyard have better breakfast. Housekeeping was hit or miss. One day the maid left a dirty rag on the couch and another day housekeeping tried to clean the room at 6:00 p.m. The hotel is located centrally between downtown and Country Club Plaza so that's the best thing about this hotel. However, I won't stay here again. When paying over $100 a night for a room I expect a basic level of cleanliness and standards.

Dear Christopher:

Thank you very much for your feedback. We apologize that we let you down. Your feedback prompted us to do a microwave inspection project to ensure that all of our microwaves are performing properly. Our microwaves are only 3 years old and get inspected/serviced by Engineering three times per year. Sure sounds like we missed one. We pride ourselves on our housekeeping but it sounds like we failed when taking care of your room. We have addressed with our associates. We are upgrading our internet this month! I realize this did you no good and am sorry that this caused you inconvenience and frustration. We are glad that you enjoyed our great location.

We appreicate your time and hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

Warm regards,

Paige Southard

Linda @ Check-in was wonderful. Very helpful.
The inital impression of the "Penthouse" was nice, but that changed.
The Master Bedroom doors do not close enough to have complete privacy.
The Master Bathroom door has to be jammed shut to close. The sheetrock in
the master bath above the shower looks as if it can come down at any minute.
Definately not worth the $$ they charge.
The pool is outdoors. Bummer! So,it was closed. The kids were dissapointed.
We were informed that this Marriott is privately owned and the owner does not want to
do any costly repairs. I'd advise to stay somewhere else.

Dear Dawn:
We apologize that you were disappointed in our hotel. French doors seperate our downstairs bedroom from the living room and as such are not completely private / soundproof as you mention. Thank you for letting us know about the repairs needed in the bathroom, they have been remedied and we deeply regret that you had this problem. I am not sure why someone told you misinformation, but our hotel is Marriott managed and as all of our hotels, held to standards for repairs and renovations. We are doing exterior renovations starting this week. On a positive note, we are very glad that you found our Front Desk associate friendly and helpful!

Thank you very much for your feedback which we have used to improve our performance.

Great access to downtown with on site parking. Fireplaces work with special logs which can be purchased from the front desk. Nice sized kitchens and bathrooms. Exceptionally clean. Employees are very helpful and friendly. Free shuttle available from very early to late within two mile radius of the hotel. Employees were very accommodating and friendly. The property has some rough edges with poorly sealed windows, crumbling steps to a unit which was blocked off with cones, "soft" spots in floors, chipped paint. The food at the "manager's reception" both nights we attended was flat awful. One night was pasta and the noodles were so over cooked they were gummed up on the serving spoon. The pasta sauce tasted to have been straight out of the jar. However, the meatballs, which appeared way late in the meal, were the only salvation to this meal. The next night were hamburgers and gardenburgers. They were inedible dried out hockey pucks. Things might be different if you get there right at the beginning of the reception. On both nights we went to eat about 30 minutes into the service. The beds seemed somewhat rickety and were not very comfortable. However, the positives DO outweigh the negatives. The suite was really more than satisfactory and the wonderful employees make it worth the price.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Main Street on the downtown end of the property face the parking garage of the Federal...
