I stayed at the Westin on a one night stay to relax and get away from home in Johnson County, Kansas. I Additionally took advantage of continuing an old family tradition of staying in the hotel as we used to do once in a while for a night over several years in the past. I was really pleasantly surprised and awed from the level service and comfort I encountered. Not to mention the comfort of the room and other facilities throughout the hotel to explore. It was enough to keep my level of interest occupied for a day.
First off, as negatively portrayed in previous trip advisor reviews I read, I did not understand why the self- parking was that bad or hard to find the connecting hotel access from. It was easy enough for me. Possibly if those reviewers had parking spots that were further away from mine or a lot of luggage to handle in the situation.
The renovated lobby was absolutely beautiful and more brightly lit. It was good to see that the floor was one one continuous surface/ plane to walk through than go around or down into and out of the sunken pit to check in at the front desk. Starting with Lori at the front desk, the service was the biggest positive surprise. She was very friendly, enthusiastic, hospitable, and informative. She also generously gave me an option to either choose between a traditional double or king room when I originally booked a double on line because the king rooms were listed as being more expensive for the day. I was able to book a king at the same price as the double thanks to her generous service. When I arrived on the 11th floor and looked for my room, the director of housekeeping greeted me and with great courteousy, generously offered to help me find my room and pointed down the hall where it was located. Even if the room was on the 11th floor and on the side of the building overlooking the pool, I had no complaints. It was a great floor to be on with a good view. The Westin rooms or the king one in particular was the most spacious one that I've ever been in. It was amazing, comfortable, and clean, along with the bathroom. Even though there was a small lack mark on the carpet, and a small piece of paint peeled off the ceiling, that didn't bother me at all that much or ruin my stay. The only real negative about my room was when I wanted to go out on the balcony, the sliding door would not open because a metal clip was fixed to the upper track and was obstructing the door from opening. I didn't take any action further than to accept it because I was only stayed for the night. Additionally, the bed and the sleep overnight was good.
Speaking of connected facilities, I like that the hotel had many places that guests could take advantage of for entertainment, relaxation, or just general exploration. From the mall to the ballroom corridor with the nice waterfall, the games deck, health club/ pool/ spa area, and the lawn in the yard beyond that. The links to Union Station and the Sheraton also branched out from the Westin for outside options in the area. The Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland centers also provide more entertainment options. The only negative I had with the inside hotel facility was that the 4th floor skywalk over the waterfall didn't rally go anywhere. There was just a wall at the end of it and the gate near there to the stairwell was locked( perhaps staff only access?).
Lastly, as the last example of service, when I went to check out and two other women on my floor and I were gathered in from of the elevator and waiting for it, when one opened, a bellman with a cart of luggage made sure to let us on around it. He was very friendly and courteous and when all of us arrived to the lobby from the elevator, he politely and gracefully let the two women and I walk out of the elevator before he did. If that's not customer service there, I don't know what is. Even though it was just a one night stay, I had a great time and it never left m for a few days. With this kind of service, comfort, and the diverse facilities offered, I definitely plan on returning to continue the old family tradition!
