“Fantastic find in Kansas City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2008

We can thank TomTom for helping us find this really cool hotel. This was our second stay in KC in a week (we were on the last day of a TN-UT and back trip). We had stopped in KC on the way there and had so much fun that we decided to spend another evening there on the way home.

We had spent some time in the Power & Light entertainment district the first night, so we set the GPS for that part of town. We saw a few hotels close by and parked the car to investigate. We walked around the corner and saw a Holiday Inn sign attached to an old building. Now, we've stayed in some pretty sketchy Holiday Inns in our time, but this can be said about A LOT of hotel chains. Out of curiosity, we went inside to check out the rates.

This is NOT a typical HI. This is a hip boutique hotel. The lobby made me feel like Alice in Wonderland. Super cool. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. We inquired about rates only to be quoted not only their rate for the evening but also the rates of several nearby hotels. How cool is that?? The difference between this hotel and the cheapest one was 10 bucks and not worth the trouble.

Our room had a brick wall view, but we were there to experience the city, not look at it from a window. The room was pretty fantastic. King sized bed with a pillow menu in the hotel book just in case the several provided didn't meet your comfort needs. The bathroom was spacious and super clean. This hotel also participates in the water saving "Use Your Towels More Than Once Like Normal People Do" crusade which earns them a gold star in our book.

This hotel is two blocks up and two blocks over from the restaurant/bar district. There were some really cool places to visit. Two of our favorites were The Flying Saucer, a beer bar with a mindboggling selection and Raglan Road Irish Pub, a beautiful pub that looked more like a cathedral than a bar.

There is a public parking garage located directly across the street from the hotel lobby.

We walked to and fro, and we never felt uncomfortable or unsafe at any point.

This place is highly recommended by my hubby and me. The next time we are in the States, we are definitely hitting up KC again, and we will most likely stay at the Aladdin.

Stayed one night at the Aladdin, enjoying our anniversary. We loved the building--beautiful classic architecture, very tastefully renovated and updated. A little bit on the small side, but not terrible. Our room was in keeping with the pictures advertised on the hotel's website and very comfortable. We purchased the Dinner package and found it to be a decent value. The food in the Zebra Room was excellent.
Only a few slight detractors:
Restaurant wait staff and front desk staff were a little less professional than we would have preferred--although not a major problem.
Bar area was rather awkwardly placed on the second floor.
Parking is a bit of a hassle--definitely worth the two extra dollars to get valet parking.
We didn't like the activity and extra people from a convention group staying in the hotel, but not much you can do about that.
Very close proximity to downtown Power and Light district and immediately across from Bartle Hall Convention Center.
Overall, very satisfied with our stay at the Aladdin--would definitely recommend.

Stayed early June 2008. Boutique hotel is wonderful, from the beautifully decorated lobby and rooms to the very helpful and friendly staff. Justin at the front desk, Jack at the Bellman desk to Sabrina in housekeeping, all were just great. Perfect downtown location near the new Power & Light district, which is a 2 - 3 block area of shops, restaurants, music venues, etc. MAX bus system very close by, very inexpensive to get around town. Rooms very comfortable and quiet. Great city to explore.

My daughter and I spent Memorial weekend shopping, sightseeing and eating wonderful steak dinners in KC. We stayed at this hotel due to the reasonable price. Our accomodations were a two room suite. The bathroom had a large immaculate shower, our tub was a jacuzzi and bathroom contained double sinks. The bed was very comfortable and the two plasma TVs came in handy for two people with very different taste in programming. The staff in the restaurant, at the front desk and valet was very attentive and friendly. The breakfast fair was wonderful, $ 9 a plate for a diverse buffet. I would recommend this centrally located hotel to everyone.

We stayed at the Aladdin for a birthday weekend on the town. We had tickets for a concert at the Sprint Center and wanted a hotel within walking distance. The rate for the Aladdin was affordable and was the lowest in the downtown area for that night. Check-in was a little slow, not sure what the people in front of us were doing but it took forever. Finally the clerk summoned help and we got checked in. We were given a complimentary flute of champagne and that was a very nice surprise.

The hotel has a kind of retro feel and is called a boutique hotel. I've learned boutique is a synonym for small, as in small elevator, small hallway and small room. Our room had a king bed and a nice tv but our view was of the alley and our wake up call was the trash truck in the alley. The bathroom (tiny) had a nice marble shower with a double headed shower fixture. The sink was very upscale but left no room on the counters. I am very glad we were only there one night. Not that anything was bad but it was all just very cramped.

The KC Power and Light District is a short walk away and is very vibrant. Be aware that if you go to anything in the Spring Center that you have to go through a metal detector so don't take a lot of extras in your pockets or on your body and definetly no knives of any kind.

I might stay at the Aladdin again if I could get a REALLY good rate.

We checked into the Aladdin for a wedding and it was awesome! Everyone on staff was so friendly and very eager to help us in anyway possible. The champagne at check in was the perfect start to our stay. The martini bar provided a neat experience and the martinis were excellent. I didn't think the rooms were too small. We had four people and it worked out just fine for one night. The decor throughout the entire hotel is very modern...I loved it! I would definitely stay here again...it's really affordable and by far the best service I have ever had at any hotel.

My Best Friend and I booked the Aladdin because of its proximity to the Sprint Center and from the moment we walked through the doors we knew we were in for a treat!!! It was raining like crazy when we arrived in KC at 12:30 when I called the Aladdin the clerk told me that check in was 4:00 and without asking if we could she checked the reservation and let us check in early. When we arrived we were greated by a lovely valet, Leslie, and I must say that he remembered my name every time he saw me. At the front desk we were given glasses of champagne and given our room keys everyone was so eager to please and it was so impressive to both of us.
I had read the reviews of the rooms with many saying they were small but I must say that both of us agreed that the room was good sized for the 2 of us 4 people however might have been cramped. I loved the "old feeling" but the modern amenities. it was fabulous.
At the front desk we were told that they had just opened a Spa downstairs and we were both excited to book a massage but when we called we learned that they were not equipped to handle 2 people at time. We were disappointed with only that factor the entire stay.
This was one of the best experiences that I have ever had at any hotel and I must say if it had not read "Holiday Inn Aladdin" on my bill I would never have known it was a Holiday Inn. I will definitely stay at the Aladdin any time I visit KC!
