“A Brookside gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

This is one of our favorite restaurants to visit when we go to Kansas City. It is tucked away on the corner of 55th street and Brookside Blvd, next to some fun shops that are worth visiting. The restaurant has outside sitting, which is perfect for a sunny spring day. The food is quite delicious. I recommend the gazpacho, it was very tasty!

“service was bad, even for a french restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

We have been to aixois several times, and usually it is really good and we get a server that we personally know. But this was Mother's day brunch and the service was just plain bad. After being seated for several minutes we finally had to ask someone who our server was...the place is too small to get lost by the staff, it was like they just didn't care. The food was good, it is always good. The young guy filling water glasses filled a large iced-tea glass with water and then realized what he had done, it was like he was sleep-walking through his shift. It is too bad that I have to be so negative, when the actual food is so good.

“Unexpected little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

The location is odd but perfect. It's like finding a pearl in a crackerjack box.

I had the mussels, A had French onion soup followed by goat cheese salad and our companion had the croque-monsieur. Cannot fault any of it. Every mussel was open and perfect, no cracked shells or closed, unlike at way too many restaurants who really should know better. The water is served at the table - take a moment to read the back of the bottle, it gives the history of the place. A cute and effective little marketing gimmick that really works. Service was attentive but discreet. Music not overpowering which makes a nice change. Artwork on the walls provokes conversation so for a business lunch or dinner or even a first awkward date, that in itself is handy, if all else fails ask about the painting.

“Ooh la la!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Luved the ambience of this French bistro. Dined outside and the corner view allows you to catch all the action. Loved the turkey sandwich and my friend expecially liked the liver and onions.

“Amazingly Good Food and Fantastic Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

We went there on a Friday before the Theater at KC Rep. We were running late so we only had time to sample a few appetizers and enjoy a glass of wine. We tried escargot, fromage plate and the Aixois Salad along with a glass of French Cabernet Sauvignon each.

We LOVED it all. Wished we could have stayed longer and tried more things. We are definitely going back.

We told the server that we needed to be in and out in less than 45 minutes. She gave great suggestions and was able to get us fed, paid and on our way in time for the show.

I highly recommend this restaurant.
