“Well-located Hotel”

This is a typical Marriott located on Main Street south of downtown and near the Plaza. It is adjacent to several of the city's art museums. The plaza is a unique gem and many may wish to stay even closer. Rooms were nothing special but ample for two. I agree that the staff is superb and typically Kansas City friendly. Parking is tight but we got used to it and liked the ability to enter and exit from both Main St. and the side street. I should note there is a pool.

Room Tip: Most upper level rooms will have a long view.

I stay here regularly. Rooms are always nice though this time it took a long time to warm up and the lotion in the restroom had been previously used (Eww!) parking spaces are very tight in the garage and though discounted parking came with my group package, the front desk insisted that wasn't right. I was charged full price and after they finally realized the "mistake" i was contacted by not the hotel but another conference goer. I contacted the hotel and two days later still have not heard back from the hotel about my refund. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and the staff is professional. There are some nice restaurants within walking distance and more restaurants and shopping just a short taxi ride away.

As could be expected the staff was definitely up to top Marriott standards. From arrival to check out, every staff member seemed incredibly efficient and friendly. The evening concierge lounge hostess, Imelda, was world class. The lounge itself was of good quality. The hotel was always clean and crisp. Our room was perfect with everything in working order. Property is in final stages of an elevator upgrade with 3 of 4 already completed and working fine.
The actual Country Club Plaza bistro area is about 4 blocks away. Rough walk during inclement weather, no problem when weather is nice. **Hotel runs a free shuttle to the Plaza **.
Major plus is the MAX, the Kansas City public bus the runs up and down Main street frequently. It stops directly in front of the hotel and runs to, or very close to, every attraction in the downtown area. At $ 3.00 roundtrip, it is a super bargain.
In addition to the usual hot tourist spots, be sure to visit the Steamboat Arabia museum at City Market. The MAX takes you directly to it. What an incredible historic adventure. Simply an outstanding, first hand experience with actual American history. The City Market alone is worth the trip, especially on Saturdays. While there, get your top KC grade BBQ lunch or dinner at Winslow's, on south side of Market area. ( order the double decker, only $ 2 extra).
If you are "new" to aquariums, the one at Crown Plaza is a good venue for you, but would be disappointing to aquarium veterans. Great for kids of all ages above 4 or so.

Room Tip: Facing South or West allows you to view Main Street and the Country Club Plaza.

Don't get me wrong- I love Marriott.. I have 38 nights this year in Marriott properties (and it is only March), but this hotel is -not- one to stay at. Not yet, at least..

This property is...confused. They are trying to put on that 4-star polish, but nothing there seemed to go right.

-There is no middle ground- the staff is either overly professional or completely rude. Hung up on twice. Face to face folks are alright, but if you call anywhere in the hotel the person on the phone will sound like you are annoying them, or they have something better to do. Except Room Service, they were cool.

-Every time you drive up, you will have two confused valets walk up and beckon you everywhere except getting the car parked.

-They charge for parking, which is absolutely ridiculous for this area. 500 yards away, the Marriott Courtyard (*EXCELLENT* place to stay, best in Marriott in KC) charges nothing, and it is in a denser area.

-Charged for the internet, despite my rewards status. They have no business charging for internet here anyway- this is not Times Square. And again, the Courtyard across the park does not.

-Coffee shop opened late. Seems petty, but when you time out your morning meetings this will make you late for everything before noon.

These are only the things that come to mind now.. Keep in mind that I will make Platinum status with Marriott before June, and this is how well I got along with them...!

-On the bright side, the room service here is fast and tasty. Resturant quality food in your room.

Other than that.. This place needs work if they are going to be the hotel they are trying to portray.. If you are going to the Plaza and need a place to stay, see if you can grab a room across the park at the Courtyard Marriott. It's a neat place- it has the polish that this place does not.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a good view of the plaza- this is the best quality of this hotel..

We decided to do a lil staycation on Thanksgiving 2012, we choose The Marriot at the Plaza because of its close proximity to Country Club Plaza where we will watch the Thanksgiving concerts and Fireworks. The Parking was quite a walk, but as our 4 year old said, walking is exercise, the check in staff was friendly, our room was clean and big. We waited for at least 15 minutes for the shuttle that will take us to the Country Club Plaza but it never came so we decided to walk to the Plaza instead.By the way this is my first review ever at TripAdvisor.

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to Country Club Plaza. We checked in quite late in the afternoon, after shopping. It seems the hotel is undergoing some sort of re-model, as the elevators were not all working. Those that were working were extremely slow and it took us a couple of times to actually get to our floor. The bell staff was surprisingly slow at helping us with our multitudes of shopping bags, suitcases, etc. We ended up carrying everything in ourselves and placing them on an empty cart. Once the check-in was complete (this was pleasant & quick) there was a person to bring our cart up to the room.

Compared to a recent stay at Marriott in Chicago, this staff did not go out of their way to be friendly. Finding a cab for our evening was easy. The rooms themselves were nice. Beds were very comfortable, etc.

We called to get our car out of valet about 20 minutes before we went down. (this time we just carried our bags ourselves) Upon arrival in the lobby, our car wasn't there, it seems they had pulled down the wrong vehicle? (it was the same color, approximate size, etc.). After a short wait our car arrived. Again, we were left to load our items in the car.

It was just a very average experience, not what you would usually expect from the Marriott.

Great friendly service at check-in, nice facilities although elevators and telephones a little dated. Rooms are clean and comfortable, buffett breakfast just as what you can allways expect from any Marriott hotel (eggs, cereal, waffles, bagels, fresh fruit). Free wireless internet in the lobby area, sometimes a little slow. Gym has great cardio equipment, few dumbells up to 50lb, some machines for upper body, all good for a "basic" workout. Nice pool and whirpool. No free parking. Good for business travel.
The hotel is located next to the Country Club Plaza where there are many chain restaurants and high-end stores and the hotel provides free shuttle service to and from it.
