“The Savoy Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a historic hotel. Maybe I should have written this in all caps. This is not the Holiday Inn! The Savoy Hotel is an experience. If you are looking for a cookie-cutter, box hotel room with a pool, stay elsewhere! If you are looking for an experience from another age, for stained glass windows and domes, for white-coated waiters, for the best breakfast anywhere, The Hotel Savoy is your place! We checked in on a Friday night, we were handed a real key (Remember those?), and a breakfast menu to fill out and turn in for the next morning. By the way, who eats the continental breakfast choice when you can have smoked salmon with caviar and Coquille St. Jacques? The suite was huge! 1.5 bathrooms! I'm not kidding! The king sized bed was super comfortable and the whole room was antique and clawfoot-tub cozy!
Breakfast was incredible! Fresh OJ, some of the best coffee I've had in awhile, and then came the entrees! Fresh fruit, lamb chops, did I mention the salmon with caviar? And, maybe the best part, Lobster Bisque. Absolute heaven in a bowl! Believe me, you won't need lunch after this breakfast!
There is some talk about the "haunted" fifth floor. Our room was on the fifth floor. No ghosts. No unexplained noise. In fact, it was so quite, we might have thought we were alone on that floor if we hadn't ridden up in the elevator with a young lady who went into the room across the hall. Yes, she was fully corporeal!
The bar/dining room is right out of the early 1900's. In fact, they told me the barstools were original to the hotel. The bartenders have some celebrity stories to tell, as well, but neither of our bartenders had any first-hand knowledge of ghosts.
The entire staff is so friendly. They remembered our names when they saw us, and told stories about the pictures and documents that line the walls.
We will definitely make the Savoy our weekend get-away destination from now on. Next time, we will dine in the Savoy Grill. I hear it's fantastic!

Room Tip: Pick the Deluxe Suite. You'll be glad you did!

this is one of our favorite motels. we have probably stayed at least 20 times. The staff is always friendly and helpful. even the housekeeping department were cheerful and helpful. One of the best things about staying at the savoy for us is that it is conveniently located near so many of the places we enjoy. the casino and the river market and its easy to jump on the highway to get anywhere else you may want to go. There is always a close place to park your car cause they have their own parking lot in which they supply you the tokens to come and go. The breakfast seemed strange at first cause we were not used to seafood at breakfast but they have the best omelets. the place is relaxing to us and we never have felt it to be haunted like the other reviews by others had mentioned.

we will be back . 'good work Savoy Staff

What a wonderful and rare opportunity to stay in such a magnificiant historical place for a lower price than surrounding hotels and to get a delicious top of the line breakfast included! The employees make the place! Most everyone I spoke with had been there over twenty-five years. I felt like family. Seeing the stained glass windows in the buildingw was worth the stay! Free parking. O.K., there were some things which aren't the greatest shape, but my entire suite was clean. I was there alone and had a suite with 1.5 baths! If there is anything about your room or stay you don't like, speak up - the staff is so helpful. If only the walls could talk!!!

This was our third time to stay at the Savoy. It has always been a delightful experience. The historic hotel is filled with old photos, a job application from Harry S. Truman, etc. Our room was great for relaxing; there was a ten-cup coffee pot with china cups and saucers. Bed was very comfortable with adequate number of pillows and blankets. Temperature was to our liking although there are still radiators there so I'm not sure of the extent of guest control. Window a/c units were in each room of the suite. For us, the "shabby" unfinished parts of the hotel were fascinating; the completed rooms were lovely. The bathroom was old as would be expected in a hotel of this vintage. Plumbing worked fine; shower was in a footed tub with plastic curtain pulled around it--no problem unless you expect a large glass enclosure. Location is great (easy walk to Kauffman center and the water and light district); breakfast is unbelievable in variety and quality. Service was very good. Price is very reasonable and parking is free. Will definitely stay there again.

Lots of character, nostalgic and ecclectic! All of these make it a great place to stay. Room was very clean and bed comfy! Great old-world charm. Breakfast was great and service very attentive. Close to all of Downtown KC spots. Free parking and they were ok with leaving our car for the day while we worked a trade show at the Convention Center. Did not eat dinner at the Savoy Grill, but did go down for a drink and although getting to the bar was awkward having to walk through tables with diners, was fun to talk to bartender and hear stories about the VIPs that dined in booths over the years. Location, price, clean, great breakfast and free convenient parking make this a great choice for Downtown KC!

We just got back from the IHOP OneThing conference and choose to stay at the Savoy because of the location. The hotel was great! The price was very good for the location. This is a very old hotel with alot of character. The breakfast is amazing and the service is excellent. Best Lobster bisque and crab crepes ever! We definitely recommend this hotel and will be back next year.

My wife and I have stayed at the hotel a few times and look forward to it every time we visit Kansas City. Just understand that it is an older hotel and will have some quirks. It is located a couple blocks from some jazz clubs and is attached to the Savoy Grill. The River Market and Power and Light district are also a few blocks away, so there are things to do and see in the area. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are quiet and relaxing. The best thing about the hotel is the breakfast and should not be missed. Sure I can scrambled eggs and pancakes, but why when I can have Eggs Benedict lobster bisque, lamb chops and crab meat crepes for breakfast!
