“Well maintained hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Raphael Hotel in Kansas City. It began with the very warm greeting by the doorman and continued with the front desk staff. Our room was well laid out, larger than most hotel rooms and very clean. The following morning we had breakfast at the Chaz and the service was poor and didn't match the service within the hotel. All in all we enjoyed our stay!

As a Marriott Rewards member, it was great staying at such a beautiful hotel for two nights using points. We were upgraded to an upper level corner suite with a beautiful view. Breakfast was included, service was excellent. Our suite was very clean, comfortable and nicely decorated and I felt that details were paid attention to. After having just come from another city where we stayed in a beautiful hotel that was extremely noisy at night, I was so grateful to find this hotel and area quiet. Another plus was free self parking. It's a lovely area to walk and there are restaurants and stores near by. If we ever get back to KC, we will stay here and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Everything about the hotel pleasantly surprised me. The level of service was definitely that of a 4-5 Star hotel. From the moment I arrived, Kelly and the other staff made me feel more than welcome. I was only in town for one night for a TV appearance and they treated me very well. They recommended a great restaurant and the upgraded suite they gave me on the 9th floor was just perfect. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it. The location was ideal as well.

We stayed on a Sunday night with the $169 Chaz special deal in which the room price ($169) is reduced dollar-for-dollar by whatever you spend at the on-location Chaz restaurant or room service (up to $169). With dinner, room service breakfast, tax, and tips, we were able to make our meals add up to exactly $169, thereby making the room itself free! Upon check-in, we were offered a free upgrade to either a plaza view room or junior suite. The junior suite was spacious, clean, and well decorated. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We were offered a free upgrade to a junior suite - more space!

My husband and I stayed at the Raphael while in town to see family for Christmas and couldn't have been more pleased with the Raphael. The location overlooks Brush Creek and the Plaza which was strung up with the annual lights for the holiday season. Having grown up in KC I am so pleased to see the improvements and changes to this building over the years since Marriott took it over.

The hotel has very decadent interiors and nice touches outside like free valet and designer fire pits to warm your hands over while waiting for your car to be brought around. The room was spacious (we opted for a suite of some sort) with a wonderful view over the plaza and the lights. The bathroom was marble trimmed and had very nice fixtures. It was nice to have the overhead space heaters in the bathroom so getting out of the oversized tub wasn't such a shock on colder mornings. There was a large work desk in the room as well as a sitting area with sofas and a flat screen tv. There was a round glass top table in front of the windows we ate at everyday. The king bed was very comfortable and there were lots and lots of pillows.

We chose to get a king suite room with a view of the Plaza and breakfast included. We highly recommend adding the breakfast package as the breakfast we had were delicious and served to our room (we could have ate downstairs) where we were able to enjoy our meals while watching the bustling plaza. The breakfast menu had the "good stuff" items like filet and eggs, banana fosters french toast, country fried steak with eggs, crab cake benedict. The french toast was the best i've ever had and i'm not a sweets in the morning kind of person but the gentleman who served breakfast the prior morning strongly recommended it....very glad he did. The portions are so big we just split whatever we got each day with the vouchers we were given and stayed full until dinner.

Other nice touches are the coffee and tea service in the lobby everyday. Nice to have a hot cup of something while starting a cold day. The teas were of an excellent quality and the coffee was okay too. Chaz is on the lower level and makes an excellent martini if your in the mood. We never ate there but everyone else raved about it. The live music was pretty good and not obnoxiously loud as other venues tend to be on the plaza. They even had some classical quartets on a couple of nights that we really enjoyed.

We enjoyed our stay so much at the Raphael we will never stay anywhere else while in KC. The service, rooms, and location are just too good. Book in advance on Marriott's website and get some great deals. Join the Marriott club (free) and sometimes they offer special rates for Marriott Reward club members like we got.

Room Tip: Plaza view is worth the extra bucks.

Excellent hotel experience. Amazing rooms although they are a little small for a $370 price tag after taxes in the Midwest. Great staff. Awesome location if you're spending time at the Plaza. Only gripe is the Marriott booking agent said there would be a partial view of the Plaza. There was not from our room.

Location is wonderful. Hotel just across street from Country Club Plaza, it's an easy walk. Roomsare tastefully done and beds comfortable. The service is the best. Staff friendly & helpful. Don't miss happy hr appetizers at 'Chaz Lounge' downstairs, they are 1/2 price from 4-6pm. Congrats to Chef...food excellent! Drinks are very good in bar. One of the BEST Boutique Hotels I've stayed. European in flavor and great change from the 'big box' hotels. You will not be disappointed staying here. It may be on pricey side, but in this case, you do get what you pay for. Highest recommendation for this fantastic hotel.

Room Tip: Recommend rm overlooking County Club Plaza.
