“Perfect location, great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

My 17 year old daughter and I came here for a shopping/museum weekend. From the moment we walked in the door we were warmly greeted by every employee in sight. Our room (a suite) was large, charming, clean, and very comfortable. It worked out so well because my daughter likes to stay up late and I'm an early riser. She stayed in the living area watching TV and slept on the pull out couch that housekeeping made up each night. The beds and linens were wonderful. We had free Wi-Fi in the room, thick towels, a modern (though small) bathroom with nice bath products, and a well stocked mini-bar. There was even a Keurig machine with both coffee and tea - a nice touch. We used both.

Sometime in older buildings the gym is laughable. But this one was quite nice with good equipment and free bottled water & bars, and individual, disposable ear phones.

We had room service for breakfast one morning and it was delightful. The waiter who delivered it was friendly and helpful, like all the staff. We had dinner in the restaurant our second night and it was fantastic. We had steak and scallops and both were perfectly cooked. The service was delightful - an ongoing theme.

When the weather forecast failed us and the rain began while we were leaving to shop, the door men offered us umbrellas.

The hotel is a block from Country Club Plaza with a plethora of stores, restaurants, and bars. (We had dinner at Brio Tuscan Grill - don't miss their bruschetta and desserts!) We also walked to the Nelson-Atkins art museum, only about a 20 minute walk. It was a great museum and a nice, manageable size.

We can't wait to come back to the Raphael.

Room Tip: The rooms with a Plaza view are great - especially at night when the Plaza lights up.

As usual, stay was great

Very clean, good service, nice bar downstairs, front desk attentive, bellhops and car valet very helpful

My only hotel when visiting KC Plaza area

Hot coffee to go!

Chaz Restaurant in the hotel is good for breakfast, but not dinner; food choices not that good
better to walk across the street. Service spotty.

Room Tip: Suites are very nice

Recently stayed at the beautiful Raphael Hotel in Kansas City. Everyone was so nice, it is beautiful place, great location. My first visit to Kansas City, and now, one of my favorite places. So much to see and do, I am looking forward to visiting again. The staff was exceptional, weather was crummy, but it didn't affect the trip.

Room Tip: Rooms are a little small, but, well equipped, loved our view looking out to the Plaza District.

The Raphael was a perfect place for us to stay. The renovation of the property provides a great combination of the historic with the contemporary. The historic architecture works well with the beautiful furnishings and the updated bathrooms.

The guest room was very comfortable and the bathroom has been beautifully remodeled. The bathroom is equipped with lovely towels and they made sure to include a grab bar in the tub/shower.

They provide complimentary coffee and tea in the morning in the lobby and delicious hot chocolate in the evening. That certainly hit the spot during the extreme cold wave we experienced while in Kansas City in May. There is also a large bowl of fresh fruit available throughout the day.

The hotel recently added a small fitness center. It has a nice selection of aerobic and weight training equipment. They supply ear buds, granola bars and bottled water. What a nice addition!

It is also a big plus that they have complimentary valet and self parking.

The staff is exceptionally nice and accommodating.

We liked the location because it is walking distance to a beautiful outdoor shopping area with nice restaurants and shops. It also faces the river which is probably beautiful when the weather is nicer.

If there is anything that needs improving, it would be a more reliable wireless service otherwise we think the Raphael has got it right.

Room Tip: The rooms are different size.

We checked into the Raphael Hotel this past weekend, for one night - we were in town for a concert at the Sprint Center. This hotel has everthing I love...and look for in a hotel. It's decor is very charming a 1920's vibe, the hotel restaurant (Chaz) had great food/drinks and live music- and the staff at the hotel are helpful and very welcoming...what more could you ask! When we checked into our room- although it was really beautiful we noticed we did not have a veiw of the Plaza as we reserved...called the front desk and they said no problem we will get you moved right away. The second room was nice but I am pretty sure the cleaning staff did a quick clean -as they were trying to accomadate our move & just finished as we were walking to the room - i would rather have a clean room than a not so clean room with a view-anyday. I quick went to the front desk told them we would prefer the room we had originally...told them the room was nice but just wasnt very clean. The person at the front desk, said sorry and no problem at & put us in a beautiful suite on the 8th floor. This hotel should be very proud of their staff as they are pros! We will be back to this hotel everytime we are in KC just loved it!

We have stayed at athe Raphael twice and both time the rooms, ambiance and staff was GREAT ! But do NOT dine in their restaurant (Chaz). They do have a couple of good servers there but other than that it is bad and no one is every dining there. We have had lunch t here like 6 times this year and NEVER again. One time for lunch they were out of meat ! Another time they had a new server that brought us the wrong order. Their BLT sandwich is made with tomato paste ! What is wrong with using REAL tomatos. We usually take business associates with us and they won't go back either. The last time the chicken was so dry we couldn't even eat it. Desserts are awesome but one goes to a restaurant for the main entree. They have gone thru so many staff members. They come and go. Rueben sandwiches not properly made either.
What was once a great restaurant has not lost it's glamour and everything else that a good restaurant should have. There are many more great restaurants on the Plaza to dine. By all means stay at the hotel but just skip the restaurant.

Room Tip: Stay at the hotel but skip the Chaz Restaurant

Stayed at the Raphael for the first time this weekend. Have prior been staying up the hill on the other side of the Plaza at the Marriott Residence Inn. Both are ultra-convenient to the Plaza but the Raphael now gets my vote as the place to stay while in KC. Elegant historic room. The attention to detail is apparent everywhere in the room amenities. Comfortable bed/bath, great TV with extensive cable, free Wi-fi, friendly staff, great coffee, etc. etc. Everything I was beginning to get weary of with the Residence Inn (tired property, bad glop breakfast) is not present here.

My new preferred lodging in KC!
