“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Raphael on the weekend of December 3rd. Our visit to the hotel was excellent and we are excited about a return trip over Valentine's Day. The hotel has been recently remodeled, new menu items have been added to the Chaz (try the bread pudding), and the bar scene was laid back and relaxing.

We appreciate having such a fantastic hotel in Kansas City, and it is definitely a true gem of the Plaza.

When visiting, do not look anywhere else, this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: Always book a room looking at the Plaza, especially during the Christmas season! As the song goes...

The Staff was courteous and friendly, they made me feel very welcomed. The room was very cozy with a very comfy bed an pillows. Ammenities were great (I had never seen make up remover in a hotel bathroom and that's usually the ammenity i forget the most). Full mini bar with wine glasses too. The only barely negative comment I have are the high prices on the breakfast menu.

This is a 1920s or 1930s old-style hotel, but the rooms have been renovated in a comfortable, contemporary style. We saw some great entertainment in the bar (Lonnie McFadden) while we waited for friends to meet us. This guy was amazing, and totally free. The drinks and hors d'oeuvres were good, but not cheap. The location is amazing as well-- just across Brush Creek from the Country Club Plaza. We were able to walk to dinner and shopping the next day. Valet parking is free, a very nice touch for this area. My favorite things about the hotel, besides the location, were the staff and the fitness center. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The fitness center was clean, provided clean towels, free headsets to listen to TVs (attached to the elliptical and treadmills), and free granola bars. There were free weights as well as a weight machine, cushy cork (?) flooring, water cooler, and temperature controlled. Also, it did not smell like a gym.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a plaza view suite since the Christmas lights were turned on.

From the moment I walked into the lobby I felt welcome - the staff is among the best I've encountered at any hotel. The Raphael was built in the '20s, and although it was recently renovated, it retains its original charm. I booked a regular room but was upgrated to a suite, which was truly luxurious. The location could not be better - the hotel is located on the Country Club Plaza, so is in the heart of the best shopping and dining in the city. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to KC!

Room Tip: Higher floors have a good view of the Plaza. That would be great during the holidays - the Plaza li...

This is a great hotel. From the moment I checked in, I felt special. Every encounter with the staff has been very pleasant. My room is incredible, with jacuzzi tub and TV and a separate shower with two shower heads. A short walk to Country Club Plaza. Free valet parking. I would highly recommend this hotel.

WOW! My husband and I stayed here for the weekend. It was a great experience. Both of us travel extensively for business and stay primarily at Marriott hotels. This Marriott is by far the best property that we have experienced. The service is top notch. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a large suite. Since we are Gold and Platinum members and paid for the breakfast package, they comped us wine and apps in their restaurant, Chaz. The food was excellent. The jazz in the bar area was worth it. Corporate Marriott management should use this hotel as a case study for how to treat customers.

Room Tip: If you are Gold or Platinum members, don't pay extra for the breakfast package because they auto...
