“A Great Memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

There is plenty to explore for all ages. Playground equipment, a fountain, pond, and the memorials. There is a pavilion with picnic tables and other picnic areas throughout the park. When we visited there were no bathrooms just port-a-pottys. I was told they are installing bathrooms. A water park adjoins the park.

Very touching tribute to the victims and volunteers of rhe tornado. The old hospital and surrounding neighborhood are reminders of what happened.

“Very moving tribute to the volunteers assisting after the 2011 Tornado”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

Visiting the newly dedicated memorial in Cunningham Park reminded me of visiting the memorial in Oklahoma City. This one, called "The Miracle of the Human Spirit' is dedicated to the volunteers assisting in the recovery after the deadly May 22, 2011 EF 5 tornado that cut through Joplin. There is beautiful stonework, lighting, water features, walkways, and embedded artifacts that make for a moving visit during the daytime as well as after dark. In the distance, you can see the twisted remains of the damaged hospital, while the tornado-damaged trees and homes on the other side of the park stand in contrast to the beauty of the memorial. Cunningham Park also had a wonderful picnic pavillion, playground, restrooms, and walking trails that were open when we visited in May. I also saw a water park that looked interesting, but it was not open at the time.
