“Absolutely superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

My wife and I have eaten here a number of times. The food is always sensational, the service excellent and the ambiance great. If you are considering eating here, don't deny yourself an amazing dining experience. This is our favourite restaurant, we cannot wait to go back. All aspects of this restaurant are excellent, the location and setting, fresh seasonal produce grown on site, the feel of a fine dining restaurant with a homely / sea side atmosphere. The staff set a new benchmark for service. The food is spectacular, fresh well balanced flavours and a great wine list. Absolutely superb all round.

Great food , amazing wine list , topped off by excellent service , has both indoor and outdoor options - was a pleasant night so we chose the outdoor - with a view of the amazing gardens.

“Exactly what I'd expect from a hatted chef!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

Fresh seasonal produce, perfectly balanced flavours and beautifully presented food. This is also complimented by an extensive wine list that can be matched with the foods and prefect non-intrusive service from the wait staff team. If you're feeling hungry and in the mood for a splurge, I'd recommend the degustation menu with matched wine - I'm still savouring the food and wine as I write this review!

Note that this is a fine dining restaurant, so meals are on the small side. For me, I thought a minimum of 2 courses was required per person. All diners are treated to complimentary freshly baked bread and olives as soon as you sit down.

“Perfect Christmas Day Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

As lovely as it is to share a Christmas lunch/dinner around a large family table, sometimes it's great to outsource the work and head to a good restaurant for an indulgent Christmas treat.
With many family members otherwise engaged, my mother, brother & sister in law decided to go to Bells for our Christmas lunch this year.
It was a set menu ($185 without wine) and consisted of 5 courses - so pretty pricey.
However, everything was delicious - not too little and not too much - based around great produce prepare in an Italian style.
The rain beat down outside, making it a good day to have an appetite (unusual in a Sydney Christmas) and the room was (as always) comfortable and attractive.
Service was great - the wait staff style casual/friendly but professional.
We all had a lovely, casual yet sophisticated Christmas lunch (unusual to find!).
It's great to have a restaurant of this quality in my local area. I know others have found Bell's disappointing on occasion, but I have been 4 times and have never experienced any of the problems others report. I'm pretty discerning - so perhaps I've just been lucky!
If you want to do Christmas lunch I suggest booking early (October) to avoid disappointment.
I tried a couple of years ago to book in November - but it was booked out.

“2 Star Food 5 Star Prices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Very average value for the money. Great location and the setting of the restaurant is wonderful but the quality produced by the kitchen is well below average especially in comparison to the prices.

This was our third visit, and the first for two years. there has been a marked decline in the overall quality of food and service.

The wine list is exceptional, but the a knowledge of it seemed to be confined to one very good waiter from Lago Maggiore, without him the rating would have been a one.
