“Good travel packages and helpful advices for free”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Well, this is not a review about the hostel, but it concerns the travel advices that the owner gave us. We were 6 people and we already planned for our next days in Nasca and after (we only bought the ticket for the bus in the travel agency which is part of the hostel), but despite of this the owner stayed for a long time with us giving us some useful advices on the planning for Huacachina stopover and on how to get the best chances to fly on Nasca lines two days after (due to possible overbooking on the flights and to summer foggy weather of the period we were there).
If you stop by the travel agency check the offer for a tour in the Paracas region and get some good advices from the owner.

It's been abt 3 weeks since I went to Paracas. I have to say that it has been one of the most wonderful experiences ever. I arrived around 11:30 am. So, I missed the morning tour and the second tour of the day had begun at 11:00. THe manager, Luis, immediately called a taxi so I could catch up the second tour. Him and his staff took care of my stuff. It was a very nice guide and very detailed. When I arrived back, the staff helped out with the hostel. My room was very clean, safe, and it had hot water. I loved it. It has a very convenient location, next to the bus station, and just a block away from all the restaurants. Since I was traveling by myself, I was scared. HOwever, everyone made me feel comfortable there. They helped me arrange everything. They fixed my bus passes, my tour for Islas Ballestas, and also they took care of all the tours for the next city, ICA. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hostel, tour, and wonderful staff. I couldn't have asked for more. The wi-fi had poor service.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the reception are better.

this review is about the tours we did, organised by Zarcillo.

Today we went on two different excursions with Zarcillo Connections: in the morning a boat tour to Ballestas Islands and in the afternoon a tour by car and on foot in Reserva National de Paracas.

Our first encounter of Zarcillo and its people was simply at the cruz del Sur busstation in Paracas. The crew (in red vests) is there waiting for people to disembark the bus, to give them information and if wanted to sell them tours or accomodation. At first we were somewhat held back, as we did not at first quite know for sure who they were. We looked the company up from our hotel on the internet, good reviews there, and called them up inquiring about the tours and prices. Good english, which is pleasant when you dont speak spanish, and the price was right, and they were friendly. So booked the tour for next morning.

Pick up by taxi at 0730hrs, we were brought to a meetingpoint/pier, were other people were also dropped of. From here we embarked a proper and new speedboat to the islands. On the boat were the guide Luis, the driver and on shore the guy form the busstation, Eduardo, was there to greet and assist us. The group was about twelve people, the boat was not full. We set sail and it was great! Saw lots of animals, sealions, baby sealions, pinguins, lots and lots of birds, kilos of guano... we came quite close to them, also to the sealions sunbathing on the rocks. Any questions were well answered by Luis, in good English and Spanish (i presume) with flair and good knowledge. We were back on shore at ten, leaving enough time for some of the people to catch the 11 o clock bus to Nasca.

We were dropped in the centre of Paracas town to fetch some early lunch. The afternoon tour started at 11.30hrs from the busstation.

The group had decimated: there were only four people, us included. Not bad!The afternoon tour took us to the beautiful and stunning Reserve. The reserve is a desert, with breathtaking landscapes and views. From the van ( airconditioned and in pristine condition) outside it looks scorchingly hot, but when you get out it is actually nice: a breeze makes it comfortable ( though easy to sunburn).

The reserve is too big to just wander around in solo, without a tour/car.

Luis was also our guide on this excursion. He is an entertaining guide who seems to know a lot about the area/ the reserve and also about natural history. In the middle of the excursion he stopped at a small fishermans harbour in the desert, where we had the possibility to have lunch. The lunch is not financially included, or mandatory. If you dont want to have lunch there, you get about an hour to walk around in the vicinity, which is very alive. For example, we fed the pelicans (so many of them!)as the local fishermen gave us a bucket of anchovies to give to pelicans. Wonderful! By the way, also quite a few dead sealions there, on the shore. As Luis also explained, they are not removed as the vulchers and other animal life feed on them.

all in all, we had a great day. We were back at our hotel around 3o clock. Saw a lot and had good company and guidance from Luis, so thank you Zarcillo Connections!!

prices were: 35 soles for the morning to islands, 40 soles for the afternoon excursion per person. Extra was paying entrance to both national parks, 5soles each per person and the morning taxi to the pier at 10 soles for the two of us.

Maybe it is good to know that our hotel, when inquired, wanted to charge us 195 per person for the same package! ( probably with another company though).

This is not an advertisement of any sort by the way, just two very satisfied customers!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2012

I arrived in Paracas around 5 PM with no room booked and someone offered to show me a room at the bus station. The hotel is located right next to the bus station, so very convenient if you don't want to walk around with your luggage. I paid 35 soles (around 13 US$) for a room with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom. There is also a sink outside the bathroom. The room was very classy, ceramic tiles everywhere... Really nice. An excellent deal for a solo traveller. It would also be a great option for a couple.
It was very quiet at night because it is located 10 minutes away from the city center and the beach (which is not very clean and nice, by the way).
However, if you want a nice view, this is not the room for you. From the room all you can see is the road. It's busy during the day but quiet at night. If you want to sleep during the day, it is not a good option for you, because Peruvians seem to like to use their klaxons a lot!
Breakfast is not included. There is a small snack-bar in the bus station next to it. And I don't know if they offer Wi-Fi. But I would not hesitate to take this room again.

I stayed there just when the Rally dakar was going by and was asked to pay a small fortune (240 Soles per night), for a room that was very hot, no airconditioning and plenty of flies (granted, owner gave me a fan so flies will not be able to land on my skin ..)
Rooms are clean and new. There is no ocean view and website is deceiving as there is no pier in front of the hotel. You should not pay more than 30 dollars per night (80 soles)
Enjoy !

A Swiss family of 5 on tour in Peru...

Quite nice, affordable and convenient place to stay, close to the city center. We had two connecting rooms (a 3-bed and a 2-bed rooms) which were simple and clean. This was a nice place to stay, as a basis to visit the Ballestas Islands. There is a deck on the roof of one of the (1-storey) building, allowing relaxing views on the ocean. It seems that the hotel can organize tours/events, though we did not test that as were were on our own.

An improvement could concern the breakfast, which was very simple (compared to the standards of our Peruvian experience), though ok. At moments, water was not so warm, but this was manageable.

Room Tip: ask for the rooms facing the ocean

Pictures on the hotel sight are misleading. They are pictures of the dock used by the agency for trips to the Ballestas Islands. However, the hotel which is ajacent to the Cruz del Sur Bus Depot is very convenient to the town, only a 5 minute walk. Even though it is connected to the bus depot, it was very quiet at night. Included breakfast is continental, the American breakfast is an addition 8-12 soles depending on who you ask. They offer tours to the Ballestas Islands and the Paracas Reserve which are reasonable and good. Ambience is lacking but it is conveniently located. Free WiFi is available and workes in the rooms. Some staff are English speaking.
