“There are reasons we keep going back to Eden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2010

This coming February will be our 11th consecutive trip to Hacienda Eden. Quite simply, we love it. Great beach, rooms that are "just right", wonderful food and, most importantly a fabulous and helpful staff. It now takes us about 3 minutes to unwind and settle in once we get to Hacienda Eden. Glad we found it. This year will be extra special because one our our travel mates is celebrating her 60th birthday. Would highly recommend Hacienda Eden to friends. Only downside, recent price hikes and reduced travel flexibility in to ZIH. Oh well.

I've stayed at Eden three times now, for three consecutive Christmases.

This small hotel on a beautiful strip of beach was so clearly built with a feel for how to create a community. The rooms are spacious and really attractive in their various representations of Mexican style and handicrafts; the restaurant is delicious; the shop is so fascinating I think I went in every evening. But the real attraction for me has always been the people.

For one, Eden attracts a special type of guest. They are willing to stay off the beaten path, and they enjoy an intimate rather than a boisterous atmosphere. There were people I became friendly with who were there all three times I was as well. People go back year after year, and the community develops.

The community is very strong among the staff as well. You can see this when you pass them working together in the outdoor kitchen. It's clear that the employees feel well taken care of, as they are consistently positive and loyal. It was great to see the same staff there each Christmas.

The Christmas lunch is fabulous. Absolutely beautiful food in such a pretty environment.

If you go just to swim in the powerful surf and read and fall asleep to the sound of the pounding waves, you'll be happy. That's what we did when I took my daughter. If you go to be active, as we did when I took my son, then you can go on nature walks, kayak trips and pony rides. I also took a surfing lesson, during which I saw huge whales leaping out of the water in the distance.

I know I'll go again.

Being a person of few words, let me just say that it is aptly named, well appointed, boasts an excellent restaurant and will provide you with the best, most relaxing sun/sand/surf holiday you have yet to experience. We look forward to Eden every year.

We have been yearly regulars at Eden since 1999. Shortest stay was 10 days, longest 22 days. This is the perfect place to relax and forget the daily grind and dreary weather you left behind. As we exit the taxi and walk through the arched entrance we feel as if we are coming home. The staff are all very welcoming and all the rooms are beautiful. There are four suites that have A/C but we have always been comfortable with just the ocean breeze and the ceiling fan. Fruity Keiko, the gift shop, is filled with handcrafted Mexican items. The beach is uncrowded and perfect for long walks. Owners Eva and Jim have created the perfect oasis. Cocina del Sol, the immaculately clean, on-site restaurant, serves wonderful breakfasts, lunches, and dinners with daily specials. Don't miss the Sunday BBQ. We highly recommend Eden for your next vacation - - but get your request in as soon as possible as they are a very popular destination.

We come to Eden to retreat once or twice a year and will keep coming back as long as they let us. We dine, swim, surf, snorkel and relax, all just steps from our rooms. We love the friendly innkeepers and staff and bring friends to enjoy the lovely room with the greatest beds. All we hear at night is the pounding of the waves and in the morning, the twittering birds. It is perfect, perfect!

Eden has dialed it in to perfection and is aptly named. That is why our stay in Feb. 2011 will be our 11th year IN A ROW. We have talked countless friends into coming here and they all keep coming back....and telling their friends. This is understated elegance at its best. This is the best that Mexico has to offer with the comforts that enable you to really relax and unwind.

The hotel, bungalows and suites are beautifully designed and appointed without being overdone - furnishings and artwork from throughout Mexico. A gorgeous, uncrowded beach; friendly, accommodating, honest staff at the hotel and restaurant; absolutely delicious, over-the-top fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some spa services available by locals - wonderful massages, beach-side mani/pedi. Bird walks, eco-tours available.

What keeps us coming back for more? The PERFECT WEATHER and water temperature, swimming and boogey boarding, the yoga platform, margaritas at sunset, reading in the hammocks, relaxed visiting with spouses/friends, morning walks/runs........did I mention the food?

Consider that you have won the lottery if you can get into this seclude, private resort during the North American winter. Only 12 rooms and 4 suites, in 4 individual bungaloes and one two-story hacienda central building, built around a lovely shaded flowering oasis on a wide, sandy beach. All rooms have separate entrances. Every unit is within one minute walk to the water's edge, where there is always gentle surf in reef-protected Manzanillo Bay. We knew we were going to a special place the first year when the taxi driver at the Xtapa/ Zijuantano airport treated us with an increased respect when we mention our destination and every year we have had that same experience. The taxi ride costs $50 before tip and takes abut 45 minutes. We have returned for seven years for a week in January. Some of our days each year coincide with the two week annual stay of the owner's father, who is an expert birder from the Tennesse Valley; who takes guests for early morning bird walks for free. We have taken beach vacations in Hawaii, several of the Caribbean islands, Cancun, Cape Cod and the islands, Florida, Jersey and Delaware shores, and Costa Rica. None of these measure up to the consummate experience at Hacienda Eden. Massage and manicure services are available at your room or in the garden every day. The owners Eva and Jim are sophisticated world-travelers and former Peace Corp volunteers, who now reside in Oslo and who designed and operate the place with exquisite attention to detail. The resident manager, Alejandro, is an ecologist/oceanographer who runs inexpensive eco trips nearby rivers and in the surrounding jungle. Vacationing "on the beach" in Mexico without any worries about eating is also one of important attractions of this resort. The talented, imaginative chef, Christian, is from the US and every lunch and dinner is a gourmet experience using local seafood and vegetables, served artfully and considerately on a shaded terrace overlooking the beach and gardens, with no fussiness and reasonably priced. Surfing beyond the reef about 1/4 mile from the hotel is rated among the best spots in the world.
